AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026: Updated points table, most goals after India vs Japan

India succumbed to a trashing 11-0 loss against Japan

The Indian Women’s Football team faced a disappointing 11-0 loss against the Japan National Football team on the 7th of March 2026, as a part of their Group C fixture in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.

Japan displayed nothing more than sheer dominance over the Blue Tigresses as, right from the first whistle, they set an attacking tone for the game, which completely devastated India.

This paid just in the 4th minute as Yuzuki Yamamoto, with her individual brilliance, broke the deadlock of the match. Just minutes later, Hasegawa made it two when she was teed up by a Yamamoto cut in.

In the 20th and 35th minutes, the Manchester United superstar scored two goals after getting two quality set-ups from Hasegawa and Mina Tanaka, respectively. In the stoppage time, Seike converted a penalty to make it 5-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Ueki scored two goals in quick succession, while Seike scored her second in the 58th minute.

Hijikata scored in the 58th minute, followed by Ueki in the 65th minute of the game, to complete her hat-trick. In the 81st minute, Miyazawa marked the final nail in the coffin by scoring the 11th goal of the match, along with marking her hat-trick.

With this result, Japan have secured their qualification to the knockout stage, and the chances of India qualifying to the next round have become difficult, as they have to bring out a commendable performance against Chinese Taipei, to qualify for the quarterfinals.
