AIFF part ways with Indian head coach Igor Stimac

Igor Stimac joined the Blue Tigers in 2019.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has parted ways with head coach Igor Stimac, effective immediately. The decision comes after a virtual meeting held on June 16th, 2024, led by AIFF Vice President Mr. NA Haris.
Other attendees included key figures like Mr. Menla Ethenpa (Finance Committee), Mr. Anilkumar Prabhakaran (Competitions Committee), and Mr. IM Vijayan (Technical Committee Chair).
Following a review of the Indian National Team’s performance in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, the AIFF officials unanimously agreed on a change in leadership. The team’s disappointing results, including a recent defeat to Qatar, were cited as a key factor.
“AIFF has decided that they will part away with Stimac.” Henceforth, “AIFF will decide what kind of compensation they can pay Igor Stimac.”
A statement from the AIFF acknowledged Igor Stimac’s contribution and expressed gratitude for his service. Mr. M. Satyanarayan, Acting Secretary General, has been tasked with formally notifying Mr. Stimac of the termination.
This decision marks a turning point for Indian football. The AIFF is now on the lookout for a new head coach to steer the national team forward.
The search for a suitable replacement is likely to dominate discussions in the coming weeks, with fans eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new leader who can guide India towards future success.
