AIFF refutes rumours of Subhasish Bose sustaining an injury on national duty

Recently, Mohun Bagan Super Giant officials accused AIFF of mismanaging Bose’s injury.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) issued a statement on Tuesday that categorically refuted the rumours of mismanagement of the Indian international Subhasish Bose’s injury. There have been speculations about the injury and how it was sustained.
Recently, a Mohun Bagan official claimed that Bose sustained an injury while he was on national duty, and AIFF could not manage the injury, resulting in aggravation. To put across their version, AIFF released a statement that mentioned the details of how the player sustained the injury.
AIFF dispels rumours of Subhasish Bose’s injury

In the statement, AIFF stated, “The safety and well-being of its players is the top priority of the All India Football Federation. With regards to certain media reports, the AIFF would like to categorically state that Subhasish Bose did not suffer any injury during the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers Final Round match against Bangladesh held on March 25, 2025, in Shillong.”
Further expanding on the matter, AIFF clarified, “He played 85 minutes in that match and was substituted purely as a tactical decision, not due to injury. Following this, he played the full duration of both legs of the ISL semi-finals on April 3 and 7, 2025, and completed 90 minutes in the ISL final on April 12, 2025, where he was later substituted.”
Subhasish Bose’s injury came into the spotlight when he joined the national camp in May. AIFF mentioned in the statement that “Bose joined the national camp on May 18, 2025. After a couple of training sessions, he reported some discomfort. Upon further medical assessment, he disclosed that he had sustained an injury during the ISL final on April 12, 2025, following which he took a rest and arrived at the camp after a lay-off of over a month, without undergoing any rehabilitation.”
Putting Mohun Bagan in the dock, AIFF said, “This injury and its subsequent management were not communicated to the national team medical staff or the AIFF support staff by his club prior to his arrival at the camp.”
Lack of trust between the federation and clubs
This is another incident that has highlighted the lack of coordination and trust between the ISL clubs and AIFF over the management of players. There have been issues in the recent past over the availability of players in the national camp.
Recently, AIFF issued a public statement urging some clubs to release the players for the national camp. The public appeal to the clubs reflects that the federation and clubs are not on the same page. This mishap in coordination might affect Khalid Jamil and his plans for the national team, as some of the important players might not be available when required.
