The Moroccan forward leads the list of top-scorers in ISL 11.

The 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) is up and running in full swing and the Highlanders striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie has amazed everyone. We are eight weeks into the ongoing season and it has been nothing short of a spectacle. One such team that has entertained every neutral is NorthEast United FC. The Highlanders have created a new robust image for themselves and are not willing to capitulate at any cost.

From being the bottom dwellers a couple of seasons ago to being a prime candidate for a playoff spot, NorthEast United FC have certainly come a long way.

And pulling the strings upfront and executing the magic is the Moroccan superstar Alaeddine Ajaraie. The forward has exploded onto the scene and ignited the league with his talismanic displays in the final third.

Alaeddine Ajaraie makes it to the history books

As NorthEast United FC wrapped a hard-fought draw on the road against Bengaluru FC, their magic man Alaeddine Ajaraie made it to the history books.

Ajaraie first equaled the long-standing record of former Delhi Dynamos man Kalu Uche for scoring in eight consecutive ISL games. He also became the fastest player to score more than 10 goals in the first eight games of the season.

Moreover, Ajaraie’s brace against Jamshedpur FC, Odisha FC and Bengaluru FC made him the first man to score three back-to-back braces in the brief history of the league.

The 31-year-old now also holds the record for scoring in each of his first eight ISL games, something no one has ever done before. With eleven goals and four assists, he now also has the most number of goal contributions in the first eight games of the season (14).

NorthEast United FC’s season so far

The Highlanders have come out as a different team altogether this season. They have retained their core and have added the likes of Alaeddine Ajaraie and Guillermo Fernandez to strengthen their front line. The duo has worked wonders for them and also inspired them to a comeback victory in the Durand Cup final.

They are currently placed third on the table with 12 points in hand. They have scored first in each of their eight games and are top scorers in the league this season with 19 goals.

However, the concerning point for Juan Pedro Benali will be that his team has dropped 12 points from winning positions, the highest by any team this season.
