Parthib Gogoi becomes NorthEast United’s all-time top scorer
The youngsters’ brace against Jamshedpur FC helped him break multiple records.
As NorthEast United FC ripped Jamshedpur FC apart into pieces on a chilling October evening in Guwahati, their poster boy Parthib Gogoi made it to the history books. Gogoi has now become NorthEast United’s record all-time top scorer with 16 goals to his name across all competitions and interestingly, he has achieved this feat in just his third season with the club.
Parthib’s tally of 16 goals consists of 10 Indian Super League (ISL) goals, five Durand Cup goals, and one goal in the Super Cup. He is also the first player to score 10 ISL goals before attaining the age of 22. It is a moment of immense pride for everyone at NorthEast United and the region because Parthib is one of their own hailing from Assam.
Parthib Gogoi’s impressive record at NorthEast United FC
The Highlanders won Parthib Gogoi’s signature against multiple clubs in 2022. He was just 19 back then, but John Abraham and company put their trust in him. He scored his first-ever goal for the Highlanders with a banger against Mumbai City FC from outside the box before scoring two more picture-perfect goals from outside the box against East Bengal and Chennaiyin FC respectively to wrap up the 2022-23 season.
Then came his best-ever season till date where he fired on all cylinders under new head coach Juan Pedro Benali. Gogoi started his 2023-24 season with a hattrick against Shillong Lajong in the Durand Cup and then a goal against DownTown Heroes. The 21-year-old scored a goal each against Mumbai City FC, Chennaiyin FC, Punjab FC, Kerala Blasters, Hyderabad FC, and Odisha FC to finish his second season with 10 goals across all competitions.
This season he initially struggled to find his mojo in the Durand Cup, but inspired his side to the final with a striker against Shillong Lajong in the semi-final. Gogoi looked out of touch at the start of the ongoing ISL season and received a lot of criticism, but has finally bounced back with a brace against Jamshedpur FC.
Who was NorthEast United’s top scorer previously?
NorthEast United’s top scorer before Parthib Gogoi was Wilmar Jordan Gil. The Colombian netted 15 goals across all competitions to become the Highlanders’ all-time top-scorer back in 2023. He scored eight goals in eleven ISL appearances and seven goals in four Super Cup outings to achieve the record.
About the player
Parthib Gogoi comes from Gorgaon, a small town in the historic district of Sivasagar in Assam. Gogoi started his journey at his father’s coaching center and they moved out to Bengaluru and started his journey at the Ozone Football Academy. He was then roped in by the Indian Arrows where he spent two seasons and also established himself as a regular for the India U20 side.
He then moved to NorthEast United in 2022 and the rest is history. Gogoi was the first player to be handed a four-year contract by the Highlanders for his stellar performances up front. As of now, he is NorthEast United’s poster boy and just a few steps away from his national team debut for India.
