Bengaluru FC secure Soham Varshneya's future with new deal until 2029

The midfielder has extended his stay with the blues after progressing through the club’s reserve setup

Bengaluru FC have secured the long-term future of one of the club’s emerging midfielders, with Soham Varshneya signing a contract extension that will keep him with the Blues until 2029.

The 22-year-old has steadily progressed through the club’s development pathway and made the transition from reserve-team football to the senior setup during the 2025-26 campaign.

Soham Varshneya’s extension comes after a season in which he began to establish himself around the first team. He made eight appearances in the Indian Super League, providing one assist, while also gaining valuable experience training and competing alongside Bengaluru’s established senior players.

For a midfielder still at an early stage of his senior career, those opportunities represented an important first step towards becoming a regular part of the squad.

His breakthrough did not come out of nowhere. Soham had already enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Bengaluru FC’s Reserve Team in 2024-25, producing 14 goals and 12 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions. The team finished fourth in the BDFA Super Division and reached the Zonal Round of the Reliance Foundation Development League, while his individual performances earned him the BFC ‘B’ Team Player of the Year award.

The midfielder’s progression continued into senior football as he made his ISL debut against Mumbai City FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on the final matchday of the 2025 league stage. He subsequently featured eight times for Bengaluru during the 2025-26 season, gaining an understanding of the pace, physicality and demands of playing regularly around an experienced senior squad.

His development also earned recognition at international level, with Soham making his India U23 debut during the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers in Qatar in September 2025.

Speaking about the new contract, Soham underlined his belief in the direction of the club and his desire to continue contributing to its progress.

“This club has always believed in me, and I believe in what we are building here. I’m happy, focused, and ready to give everything for Bengaluru FC.”

Why Bengaluru FC is the right move for Soham Varshneya?

For Soham, this extension means more than just simply securing his future. He is a Bengaluru FC academy graduate and a Blue through and through, making his rise into the senior team particularly special. He now has the chance to build his career at his home club, in front of supporters who have followed his journey from the academy to the first team.

The decision also gives the midfielder the stability to continue developing within an environment that has already played a significant role in his career.

He will also continue to develop alongside some of the most experienced players in Indian football, including Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and others. Learning from players who have spent years performing at the highest level, handling pressure and maintaining consistency can be crucial as he looks to establish himself in the ISL.

Having already made his senior breakthrough, the next step is to turn those opportunities into a more regular role. With Bengaluru’s continued belief in him and the guidance of experienced teammates around him, the new deal gives him the ideal environment to take that next step at the club he has grown up supporting and representing.
