Many exciting young strikers will be seen playing in the Calcutta Football League.

The 2024 season of the Calcutta Football League is up and running. Organized by the Indian Football Association (IFA) of West Bengal, it is the oldest football league in Asia. Plenty of exciting young players play in it for their respective clubs every year. The league provides a brilliant platform for young players to make an impact and make a case for themselves in the eyes of their coaches for a spot in the senior setup.

The two powerhouses of West Bengal football, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are also among the participating teams in the 2024 Calcutta Football League. They have brilliant young players who can become superstars of tomorrow. There will also be eyes on the squad at Mohammedan SC, the latest entrants into the Indian Super League and defending champions of the Calcutta Football League.

As the ball starts rolling and the young players get into action, here is a look at the top five young forwards to watch out for in the 2024 season:

Loitongbam Taison Singh – Mohun Bagan SG

Mohun Bagan are one of the favourites for the 2024 Calcutta Football League title. The outfit have announced a youthful squad to spearhead the challenge in the competition. One of the players who will be in the limelight is Loitongbam Taison Singh.

The former Indian Arrows player is a well-known youngster with huge potential. He can play as an attacking winger, a No.10 or even as a False 9, providing incredible versatility. He was part of the Mohun Bagan squad that won the 2023 Durand Cup. 

Jesin TK – East Bengal

Jesin TK is part of an exciting East Bengal squad that is predicted to fight for the title this season. The outfit have won the competition the most number of times and representing a club like that in the Calcutta Football League brings a lot of pressure. However, the 24-year-old footballer from Kerala thrives in such conditions.

He started the 2024 season well by scoring twice in East Bengal’s opening fixture against Tollygunge Agragami in a 7-1 win. There will be a lot of attention on the striker who has the potential to feature in EB’s senior team in the ISL and finish as one of the top scores in the Calcutta Football League.

Lalthankima Khiangte – Mohammedan SC

Mohammedan SC have plenty of young footballers in their squad who are attracting attention. Lalthankima Khiangte is one of those individuals who have huge potential and the ability to become a high-impact player. The striker, hailing from Mizoram, scored a brilliant brace in Mohammedan’s opening game in the 2024 Calcutta Football League season.

Lalthankima Khiangte added a lot of energy from the bench, helping the side record a convincing 6-0 win over Wari Athletic Club. He has a three-year contract with the club until 2027 and could feature more regularly in the starting lineup in forthcoming games. 

Suhail Bhat – Mohun Bagan

Suhail Bhat is one of the many young players who will be representing Mohun Bagan SG in the 2024 Calcutta Football League. To feature for the Mariners requires extreme levels of hard work coupled with talent and drive. Hailed as one of the forwards to watch out for, the expectations are high from Bhat.

Suhail Bhat ticks all the right boxes as he prepares to guide Mohun Bagan to the 2024 title. The 19-year-old has previously featured for Indian Arrows, India U-16 and U-23 sides. The striker scored against the West Ham U-21 side in the Next Gen Cup too. Furthermore, he has the experience of playing for the senior squad of MBSG in the Durand Cup and the ISL, where he has made six appearances already.

Adil Abdullah – Mohun Bagan

Sticking with Mohun Bagan, they have another young player in their ranks who can be a central figure in the upcoming 2024 campaign. Adil Abdullah hails from Kerala and is a lethal attacker who thrives on his physicality and finishing capabilities. He signed for the Mariners in 2024 from Muthoot FA.

The fans of the Mariners expect good things from the side, expecting them to challenge for the title this season. With figures like Adil Abdullah and Suhail Bhat leading the forward department, one can expect many goals for Mohun Bagan in the ongoing 2024 season.
