Both these players will play a key role against the Highlanders.
The Indian Super League (ISL) action will get underway on Thursday following the international break. NorthEast United are set to welcome Owen Coyle’s Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati as both sides are looking to get a stronghold on the playoff spots.
Chennaiyin FC have faced a setback in recent games after their 3-2 win against Odisha FC. A loss at home to Mohammedan SC followed by a goalless draw against Hyderabad FC means that the Marina Machans are currently 8th in the ISL Standings.
However, there was some joy for the Chennaiyin FC supporters on the international football front. Lalrinliana Hnamte made his debut for the Indian national football team and Farukh Choudhary too returned to the Blue Tigers setup with a goal in the 1-1 draw against Vietnam last weekend.
Owen Coyle’s thoughts about Lalrinliana Hnamte and Farukh Choudhary
Chennaiyin FC head coach, Owen Coyle talked about the positives from the international break, especially focusing on the performance of Farukh Chowdhary in the press conference before the game against NorthEast United.
Talking to the media, Owen Coyle said, “Certainly one of the really good things about the International break was the fact that Lalrinliana Hnamte made his international debut and Farukh Choudhary coming back into the setup.”

The Chennaiyin FC manager added, “Farukh missed a year of football. Now, he’s coming back into the setup. So, it was great for him to come back to the international fold and score. Anytime you play for your country is a huge honour. But for you to score takes it to another level. So, we’re delighted in that aspect.”
Importance of players
Both the players have started all three of Chennaiyin FC’s ISL games this season. While Farukh is the current top scorer for the club with two goals, Hnamte’s contribution has been equally important in the midfield, especially in terms of winning the ball back.
Northeast United are a dangerous opposition under Juan Pedro Benali this season, having already won the Durand Cup. Chennaiyin FC lost 3-0 in Guwahati last season and hence the pressure would be on Owen Coyle’s side in tomorrow’s Indian Super League clash against the Highlanders.
