Durand Cup 2024: Bengaluru FC vs Inter Kashi – Build-up
Bengaluru FC and Inter Kashi are set to clash in their upcoming 2024 Durand Cup fixture on 3 August 2024 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Group B is one of the toughest at the ongoing 133rd edition of the tournament, the oldest in Asia. A clash between an Indian Super League (ISL) and an I-League outfit generates a lot of hype amongst passionate football fans and the upcoming contest is no different in that regard.
Bengaluru FC opened their 2024 Durand Cup campaign with a convincing 4-0 win over Indian Navy. As for Inter Kashi, their first tournament match saw them play a 1-1 draw with former I-League champions and newest ISL entrant Mohammedan SC.
The result of the upcoming fixture is set to have huge implications on the eventual standings and knockout stage qualifications. Both teams will push for a win to get one step closer to securing a berth in the knockout stages. Here is what to expect from Bengaluru FC vs Inter Kashi on Saturday.
Bengaluru FC sit on top of the standings in Group B with three points. A win will all but confirm their knockout stage berth. The Blues made short work of the Indian Navy in their opening fixture. A brace by Jorge Pereyra Diaz was one of the major positives to take away. The aim would be to continue their strong start to the tournament.
Inter Kashi are the underdogs heading into the contest against ISL’s Bengaluru FC. They drew the opening game against Mohammedan SC and must secure a win against the Blues to stay in the hunt for one of the two qualification spots into the knockout stages. A draw and a win in the final game against the Indian Navy could also be enough to send them into the next stage, depending on other results.
Bengaluru FC’s new acquisition Jorge Pereyra Diaz is a lethal finisher and an opportunistic goal-getter. His performances with Kerala Blasters FC and Mumbai City FC have proven him to be a dangerous striker. Scoring a brace in the debut for the Blues was a brilliant start.
Nikola Stojanovic was the man to watch out for against Mohammedan SC and the midfielder contributed with a goal for Inter Kashi against his former team.
He is a crucial element in the side’s midfield, playing a key role in retaining ball possession and providing cover to the defence. Bengaluru FC’s defence must be cautious and not give him space to operate.
