Durand Cup 2024: List of award winners

NorthEast United secured their maiden Durand Cup title.

NorthEast United FC defeated Mohun Bagan Super Giant in a dramatic penalty shootout win to clinch their first-ever trophy in club history. In an end-to-end contest, both sides showcased tremendous calibre on the pitch.

The Mariners started the game very well, scoring two goals in the first half from Jason Cummings and Sahal Abdul Samad. NorthEast United pulled off an unbelievable comeback as Alaeddin Ajaraie and Guillermo Fernandez scored two brilliant goals to level the score.

Mohun Bagan struggled to get the rhythm in the second half as the Highlanders created some excellent chances to score their third goal. Finally, Mohun Bagan could not win a third successive penalty shootout, as Gurmeet Singh saved penalties by Liston Colaco and Bagan captain Subhasish Bose.

As the tournament concluded, here is a look at the various award winners.

Durand Cup 2024 Winner: NorthEast United FC

For the first time, NorthEast United FC reached the Durand Cup final and they won in their first attempt. Not many expected them to beat a star-studded Mohun Bagan’s side who was playing at their home ground.

Juan Pedro Benali’s tactical change and substitution after the first half made the difference in the match as in the second half NEUFC completely dominated the game and made some great chances. Finally, in penalties, they defeated the record-time champions Mohun Bagan. They received a winning purse of INR 60,00,000

Durand Cup 2024 Runners-up: Mohun Bagan

Mohun Bagan played some good football throughout the tournament but they were not able to get over the final hurdle and unfortunately lost the match.

Even though defence will be a big concern for Jose Molina going into the ISL which will start in a few days. Mohun Bagan were outclassed by NorthEast United’s determination and resilience in the second half which eventually led to losing the final. The Mariners were awarded INR 30,00,000.

Durand Cup 2024 Man of the Tournament: Jithin MS

Overall almost every player played well for the Highlanders but Jithin MS did his job in every match and his performance was up to the mark.

His work ethic and determination always made sure that he made a difference on the pitch. He won the man of the tournament deservingly. He was awarded with a cash prize of five lakhs along with the trophy.

Durand Cup 2024 Golden Boot: Noah Sadaoui (6 goals)

Even though Kerala Blasters were not able to reach the finals in the group stage they played well against the opposition team, Noah Sadaoui scored six goals in the tournament and helped his team in every match.

He was instrumental in Blaster’s performance in this tournament and in ISL as well he will surely play a key role in Kerala’s performance. He also got a five lakhs cash prize.

Durand Cup 2024 Golden Glove: Gurmeet Singh

NorthEast United’s defence was the best in this tournament and a lot of credit goes to Gurmeet Singh who did a brilliant job in between the goalpost and in the final as well he made two big saves in the shootout to help his team win their maiden title.

Even though Vishal Kaith also performed well Gurmeet deserved it more as he brought glory to his team. Gurmeet was awarded a golden glove trophy and a five lakhs cash prize.
