Durand Cup 2025 set to kick off on July 22

Kokrajhar set to play host for the 2025 edition.
The 2025 edition of the prestigious Durand Cup, one of Asia’s oldest football tournaments, is all set to begin on July 22 and will run through to August 23, 2025, promising another month of high-octane football action.
The Kokrajhar district of Assam has been confirmed as the official host venue for this year’s tournament, further expanding the reach of Indian football to newer frontiers in the North East.
The announcement was made by the tournament organizers, adding to the excitement among fans and clubs alike as preparations begin for one of Indian football’s most historic competitions. With the dates now finalized, the countdown to the 134th edition of the Durand Cup has officially begun.
Kokrajhar confirmed as official hosts for Durand Cup 2025
The upcoming edition of the Durand Cup is being organized by the Indian Armed Forces in partnership with the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Kokrajhar, which made its debut as a co-host during the 2023 edition, has now been entrusted with full hosting responsibilities. The enthusiastic local response and smooth organization in previous years have earned the district a chance to shine on a bigger stage.
The decision also aligns with the broader push to promote football across the North East, a region known for its deep-rooted passion for the sport. While the full list of participating teams is yet to be revealed, the tournament is expected to feature top clubs from the Indian Super League (ISL), the I-League, the Services, and other domestic competitions.

NorthEast United FC will be keen to defend their crown

Last year, NorthEast United FC clinched the title in a dramatic final, and they will be keen to defend their crown when the action resumes in July. The Highlanders and the Mariners finished on two goals a piece after 90 minutes of footballing action. However, it was NorthEast United FC, who won the prestigious tournament after Liston Colaco and Subhasish Bose missed their respective penalties.
The Durand Cup continues to serve as a key preparatory tournament ahead of the start of the new Indian football season. With growing attention and rising standards of competition each year, it has reasserted its relevance in the modern era.
As Kokrajhar gears up to host the iconic event, the 2025 Durand Cup promises to be more than just a tournament but rather a celebration of football’s enduring legacy in India.
