Durand Cup 2025: Top three players to watch out for in Bodoland FC vs NorthEast United FC

NorthEast United FC are defending Durand Cup champions.

Defending champions and Group E toppers NorthEast United will take on their local rivals, Bodoland FC, in the first quarter-final on Saturday. The Durand Cup 2025 is done and dusted with its group stage fixture, and now the focus shifts to the all-important knockouts. Eight teams from six groups have qualified for the quarter-finals and will battle it out for a place in the final four.

NorthEast United FC started their campaign with a thumping 3-1 win over the Malaysian Armed Forces before taking down their arch rivals Shillong Lajong in a highly contested NorthEast derby. They come into this game on the back of a 2-2 hard-fought draw over Rangdajied United. The winner of this game will go on to play against either Shillong Lajong or the Indian Navy.

3. Jairo Samperio (NorthEast United FC)

Jairo Samperio is undoubtedly one of the best recruits in all of Indian football this season. The Spanish forward brings with him a bag full of experience, having played the beautiful game at the highest level, even alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Samperio is primarily a right winger but slots into multiple positions as per the situation. 

His blistering pace combined with his technical expertise, makes him an undisputed starter for the NorthEast United FC. The 32-year-old is known for his pinpoint crossing and excellent decision-making abilities. Jairo showed everyone what he brings to the table after scoring an all important equaliser for his side in the last game. 

2. Robinson Blandón (Bodoland FC)

Robinson Blandón has been the best signing for Bodoland FC this season. He has come in and just lit up the stage with a series of extraordinary performances. Blandon has been the driving force behind Bodoland’s run to the knockouts. The Colombian target man began his Durand Cup journey with a match-winning goal against Karbi Anglong Morning Star. 

He then rose to the occasion and scored the decisive goal to take his side over the line against Punjab FC. His goal not just propelled Bodoland FC to a win but also ensured their qualification for the final eight. Blandon is a poacher and knows how to take advantage of his opponents. His aerial prowess, coupled with his ability to perform under pressure, makes him an important piece of the puzzle for his side.

1. Alaaeddine Ajaraie (NorthEast United FC)

If there’s one man who doesn’t need any introduction in Indian football at the moment, it is NorthEast United FC’s Alaaeddine Ajaraie. The Moroccan speedster has taken the football scene by storm ever since his arrival on Indian soil last season. Ajaraie has picked up from where he left off last season. He has come back with a bang and has led NorthEast United to two important wins, all on his own.

He started off with a brilliant hat-trick against the Malaysian Armed Forces before helping his side script a comeback against Shillong Lajong with a brace. Ajaraie is NorthEast United FC’s ultimate weapon and can take down anyone he wants. He is very motivated to help NorthEast United defend their crown and will do everything in his power to make sure that happens.
