The 2024-25 football season kicks off with the 2024 Durand Cup. This will be the 133rd edition of the oldest football tournament in Asia. It is set to feature hard-hitting Indian Super League sides such as Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City FC and the rest of the teams from the premier league competition in India. Also, joining them will be I-League and Indian Army outfits as well as some foreign clubs, that will make the upcoming tournament an exciting watch.
Mohun Bagan are the defending champions of the Durand Cup after defeating their arch-rivals East Bengal in the final last year. Both Kolkata-based clubs find themselves in the same group, which makes the contest crisp for both sets of fans and neutrals.
There are 24 teams divided into six groups of four each. The group winners from each group will advance directly to the knockout rounds and the two best second-placed teams will join them in the next round of the tournament.
