FC Goa vs Al Nassr Player Ratings: Brison, Angelo Gabriel shine; while David Timor, Udanta disappoint

Saudi side edge past the Gaurs with a narrow one-goal lead.

FC Goa faced a gruelling 2-1 loss against the Saudi giants Al Nassr Club in the third round fixtures of the AFC Champions League Two on the 22nd of October at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.

Al Nassr opened the scoring in the 10th minute off Angelo, who beautifully whipped in a powerful shot from outside the box, beating the Goan defenders and keeper to breach the goal and break the deadlock of the match. Later, after continued attacks from the Saudi side, they doubled their advantage off Camara, who cleverly put the ball into the back of the net after creating a moment of agitation in the final third.

Just as the first half was about to be put to bed, Drazic provided a pass into the final third, which, after deflecting from the pitch, changed direction and went straight to Brison, who displayed his poetry-like moves in the Al Nassr penalty box to beat the defenders and register the historic opener and erupt the Goan crowd.

Later in the second half, despite continued attacks from Al Nassr to further strengthen their advantage, the resilient FC Goa defence created an impenetrable backline which the visitors failed to break past, and at full time, Al Nassr clinched a 2-1 victory against a determined Indian side.

Here are the FC Goa Player Ratings

Hrithik Tiwari – 5

Hrithik was just a mere spectator between the sticks when Al Nassr scored both their goals. Though the second goal arose out of a defensive error, the keeper could have done better to prevent the opener. Later, when the defensive unit of Goa regrouped, the keeper stood tall as the last line of defence and made some good claims and distributions.

Sandesh Jhingan – 6

Jhingan was alert, kept his eyes on the ball and was able to keep the potential dangers away from the FC Goa box. Lacked intensity during the second goal scored by the visitors. Later, Sandesh did a good job putting pressure on Khalil Marran and kept him silent for the vast majority of the match. Kept composure, put in the fighting spirit and ensured that the opponents did not further score.

Aakash Sangwan – 6.5

Sangwan was reliable in the left as he competently shadowed Wesly and Marran to a large extent. Won almost all the duels the player was involved in, both ground and aerial. Ably made clearances and blocked the shots of the opponents, along with skillfully recovering the ball during multiple instances. Displayed an immense workload and defended well till the last minute of the game.

Pol Moreno – 5.5

Moreno was sharp in the backline and made some good challenges to dispossess the opponents and win the ball back for Goa. Was good in duels, made a good number of recoveries and clearances, and also made a couple of tackles to add to the work of the opponents. However, as the game progressed, it felt like Moreno lacked fitness, and his contributions remained relatively low; he was immediately subbed off.

Sahil Tavora – 5.5

Sahil had a decent day at the office and did well in the midfield for the Gaurs. Retreated back to defend whenever the opponents progressed forward with the ball. Left space in the defensive third, which paved the way for the Camara goal. Later, Tavora became vigilant and stood as the link between the backline and the attacking third and maintained a solid passing accuracy.

Boris Singh – 6

Boris was probably one of the few bright sparks for Goa in the first half. Covered Aymen Yahya and Gareeb pretty efficiently and was able to resist a good number of their moves. Ventured deep into the attacking third and even beat Inigo Martinez with his pace. Played his heart out and was one of the key reasons why Al Nassr were restricted to two goals. In the final minutes, Boris came in a 1v1 with the keeper, which, though was called offside later, visibly disappointed the player as he was unable to find the back of the net.

Udanta Singh – 5

Udanta had a patchy performance throughout the match and was average in every aspect of the game the player was involved in. Struggled to keep ball control, cheaply gifted possession during multiple occasions, which created trouble for his side, was defeated during duels and was unsuccessful in his dribbles. Udanta’s minimal contribution means that he was subbed off in the

David Timor – 5

David Timor had a struggle to keep the opponents silent during the game. Was not mobile and played the entire minutes in the back, where ironically he was unable to provide a significant contribution. Was just a spectator and did almost nothing to prevent the opponents from scoring. Was decent in passing and provided some good deliveries.

Made a couple of clearances and blocks, but for a large part of the match, his performance could have been better. Just when the game entered the stoppage time, Timor was sent off with a direct red for intentionally hitting the ball to the linesman, leading to the hosts fielding only 10 men in the crucial stoppage time.

Borja Herrera – 5.5

Borja could have done better to prevent Al Nassr from scoring their second goal. Tried to dribble in the left wing and craft the Gaur attacks; however, he was resisted to a large extent by Al-Ghannam. Later, the winger provided some rare crosses, but most of them lacked accuracy and did not challenge the Saudi Side.

Was involved in almost half a dozen duels and was unsuccessful in almost all of them and was unable to register even a shot on target. A yellow card received by the player further restricted his creativity in the second half.

Javier Siverio – 5

Siverio did not make any major contribution to the match as he was subbed off early in the 24th minute due to an injury he sustained in the 19th minute. Had only six touches throughout the minutes played.

Dejan Drazic – 5

Picked up the loose ball from the opponents and initiated a few attacks; however, the lack of support in the final third cost him badly. Kept the attacking intent high and assisted the opener for the Gaurs. However, as the clock kept ticking, Drazic slowly started to disappoint as he failed to keep control over the ball and was unable to challenge the Saudi side in the final third.

Substitutes

Brison Fernandes – 7

Came in as an injury substitute for Siverio in the 24th minute within just a couple of minutes, he came close to heading in a goal.

In the 40th minute, Brison made an excellent run from the left, beating the Al Nassr defenders, to open the accounts for Goa and provide a glimmer of hope. Later, Brison single-handedly spearheaded the Goan attacks and was a big headache for the Saudi giants.

Al Nassr Player Ratings – by Saikat Sengupta

Here are the Al Nassr Player Ratings

Bento Krepski – 6.5/10

Though Bento failed to keep a clean sheet tonight, he did well, especially during those nervy moments and saved that sure-shot equaliser from Boris. Goa just had one shot on target, so it was a fairly easy day at work for him.

Sultan Al Ghannam – 6/10

The Al Nassr captain loosened his grip in the second half, and Boris almost scored the equaliser if Bento did not make that crucial save. Apart from that, he led his team effectively and sealed the defence despite being just a goal up for over 45 minutes.

Haroune Camara – 8/10

The former Al Shabab and Al Ittihad striker scored the second goal tonight and was impressive from the first minute with his sprints.

Inigo Martinez – 6.5/10

The former FC Barcelona defender was subbed off after a not-so-impressive game tonight. Goa dominated from the first minute of the second half, and the pace from the wings even troubled Inigo a bit.

Abdulelah Al Amri – 7/10

It was never easy to match the pace and acceleration of young Gaurs, including Boris and Udanta, who even beat him once. But he did well to neutralise the attacks from the wings.

Abdul Ghareeb – 7/10

Ghareeb was everywhere in the match tonight. The omnipresent Ghareeb was instrumental in creating spaces from the wings and also helping the defence during counterattacks.

Alhassan – 6.5/10

He was also subbed off and did not impress much. Though he took a couple of shots, but most of them were far away from the target.

Angelo Gabriel – 8.5/10

The 20-year Brazilian midfielder has previously played for Santos, Chelsea and Strasbourg. He scored the first goal tonight after a thunderous strike broke the deadlock. He was brilliant throughout the game.

Wesley – 7/10

Wesley took a solitary shot, and that too was off target. He weaved a lot of attacks from the left wing and looked phenomenal in the first 45 minutes.

Mohammed Marran – 7/10

Maran got a chance to start up front, and he could have made more of the opportunities to score. Maran took two shots, but none of them were on target.

Aiman Yahya – 7/10

The Saudi international could have capitalised on his chances, but failed to convert them. He looked very tired in the last few minutes and was too exhausted to march forward.

Substitutes

M Simarkan – 7/10

Simarkan was brought in for Martinez after Goa started penetrating deep in Goa’s penalty box. But Simarkan held his nerves and kept his cool to seal a close victory for Al Nassr.

Sadio Mane – 7/10

The former Liverpool winger was brought in for a few minutes and was tasked with the responsibility of slowing the pace of the game and aiding the defence.

Joao Felix – 6.5/10

The Portuguese striker’s introduction to the game came in the last quarter of the game. Though he created some good chances, he was nowhere close to scoring a goal.

N Boushal – 7/10

Al Khaibari â€“ 6/10
