The inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is scheduled to kick off on September 21st during the FIFA window and marks a significant step for efforts to expand international competitive footballing opportunities.

Meanwhile, the division 2 champions will receive a prize money of $300,000 (approx. ₹2.86 crore), which is also a pretty big amount.
However, there’s a very interesting catch, along with the winners of the two divisions every participating football nation that means that the 14 teams will receive a guaranteed participation fee of $125,000 (approx. ₹1.19 crore) each, becoming almost like a financial security regardless of their performance in the tournament.

Group stage divisions
The tournament will feature 14 teams divided into two divisions. The division 1 has eight teams split into two groups of four each, while the division 2 has six teams divided into two groups of three each. All the division 1 matches will be played in Indonesia, while Hong Kong will be the venue for division 2.
The group winners from each division will progress to the final, while the runners up will play a third-place playoff match.
India have been placed in division 1 group A, alongside Malaysia, Singapore and hosts Indonesia. Meanwhile, the group B of division 1 consists of Pakistan, Vietnam, Thailand and Philippines.
