FIFA is all set to organise a new international tournament for U-15 national teams which is to be held in a festival format. The initiative is a part of FIFA’s long-term strategy to focus and develop grassroots and youth football.
The FIFA U-15 Football Festival will take place in United States of America (USA) in September 2026, with all 211 member associations invited to participate in the developmental event.
India will hope to be a part of FIFA U-15 Football Festival in USA as it can be very important for the youth football development.
With the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) leadership currently in attendance at the FIFA World Cup 2026, the moment and timing presents a perfect opportunity to ensure that the necessary arrangements are made for India’s U-15 team to be part of this global event.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, “In recent years, FIFA has significantly strengthened its work in youth football development, and the results are clear. We are heavily investing in youth competitions, and the launch of the FIFA U-15 festivals is a natural, logical and very exciting next step.”
What is FIFA U-15 Football Festival?
FIFA U-15 Football Festival is a youth developmental tournament which is going to take place this year (2026) in USA.
It will feature U-15 national teams, and all the 211 FIFA member associations are invited to participate in it including Russia which has been banned from all FIFA competitions since the war in 2022. FIFA is also planning to host two separate festivals each year for both boys and girls moving forward.
The format
The main aim of this tournament will be to focus on youth football development across the world rather than purely being a competitive tournament. Therefore, the matches will reportedly be played with shortened duration, reduced pitch dimensions and the teams will likely consist of seven to nine players.
