Gokulam Kerala set to appoint Antonio Rueda as new head coach

Gokulam Kerala finished third in the I-League 2023-24 season.
For the upcoming season I-League powerhouse Gokulam Kerala are all set to welcome Churchill Brothers’ former Spanish head coach Antonio Rueda.
The football club hailing from the Indian state of Kerala, fell six points short of second place from their counterparts in the south Sreenidi Deccan. Kolkata giants Mohammedan SC were promoted to the Indian Super League (ISL) after winning the I-League 2023-24 season.
Sreenidi Deccan will be a serious hurdle for Gokulam Kerala in the upcoming season given their performance in the Super Cup too.
With the 41-year old Antonio Rueda bringing in his wealth of experience both from the Andorran Primera Divisio and the Indian football pyramid, its clear that Gokulam Kerala have indulged in some serious team-building and have their future goals already set in place.
Who is Antonio Rueda?
Antonio Rueda is currently the manager of FC Ordino in the Andorra Primera Divisio on a one-year contract which is set to end on June 30, 2024. Post the completion of his current contract, the Spanish tactician is expected to land in Kerala and join the I-League side’s pre-season camp.
The manager hailing from the Spanish city of Seville, prefers the classic 4-4-2 formation and with players like Alex Sanchez and former Mohun Bagan striker Komron Tursunov who was a part of the Mariners’ I-League winning campaign during the 2019-20 season in their frontline, oppositions will have a tough time dealing with the Rueda-led Gokulam Kerala.
Alejandro Sanchez Lopez, led the I-League in goals scored with 19 goals from 22 games, good enough to win him both the Best Player and the highest goalscorer titles, despite his team Gokulam Kerala finishing third in the standings in the I-League 2023-24 season.
