Gujarat Super League arrives with six franchises and lots of promise

The start date of the Gujarat Super League hasn’t been announced yet.
How many franchise-based football leagues are there in the Indian domestic football circuit? Of course, keeping aside the Indian Super League. Are there any? Well, not that most pundits or fans are aware of.
But, in a recent most development, one franchise-based league is set to make it’s bow – the Gujarat Super League. Headed by the guidance of Parimal Nathwani, a person who has closely worked with business stalwarts like Dhirubai Ambani and Mukesh Ambani, the league is all set to kickoff with six franchises.
Teams and owners
The names of the teams are – Vadodara Warriors, Surat Strikers, Saurashtra Spartans, Karnavati Knights, Gandhinagar Giants and Ahmedabad Avengers.
The owners of the respective franchises are:
- Alkesh Patel – Loyal Equipments Limited
- Kamlesh Gohil – K and D Communication Ltd
- Prashant Sanghvi – Ratnamani Metals and Tubes Ltd
- Sahil Patel – Viva Steel Pvt Ltd
- Manish Shah – True Value Group Suhrudbhai Patel
- Kushal N. Patel – Axita Cotton Limited
Positive Decisions
These clubs will sign players from the GSFA Reliance Cup Inter District Football Tournament for senior men and the GSFA Senior Club Championship. A total of 84 local talents will be scouted from the state. Moreover, 36 players, who are not part of the Gujarat region, will be signed from the batch of players who participated in the final round of the recently concluded Santosh Trophy.
The coaching staff of these franchises too have been selected from the state, with all of them boasting an AFC ‘A’ license.
Venue and telecast
All matches of the Gujarat Super League will be played at the TransStadia in Ahmedabad. The fixtures will be streamed live on FIFA+ and SportsCast India.
