Hyderabad FC tried to form a team for the Durand Cup but failed.

Hyderabad FC have been forced to withdraw their participation from the 2024 Durand Cup due to financial troubles. The Indian Super League (ISL) side are currently suffering from a series of different transfer bans which have been caused by prolonged financial problems.

The Nizams have been hit with multiple transfer bans and restricted from signing or registering new players into the squad over the last year or so. This is due to their inability to pay their players or non-playing employees on time over the last few years.

Hyderabad FC were not able to complete their 18-man squad that was to participate in the Durand Cup. As a result, their Chief Operating Officer (COO) Suresh Gopalkrishnan had to reportedly inform the Durand Cup organizers of their inability to take part in the 2024 edition.

The Nizams were placed in Group F in the Durand Cup, but won’t be able to take part in the competition due to their inability to field an 18-man squad. This is due to the club being imposed with multiple FIFA transfer bans and many players terminating their contracts, leaving the club with only 13-14 players registered to their senior team at this moment.

The Durand Cup organizers need at least 18 players registered for any team participating in the iconic tournament. As they’ve been unable to do so, Hyderabad FC have opted to just not to participate in the 2024 edition, as they aim to build their squad ahead of the start of the 2024-25 ISL season.

The Nizams reportedly owe a sum of nearly 18 crores to their players, coaches and other non-playing staff and have missed three successive deadlines set by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to clear their dues.

There are currently major doubts on whether the 2021-22 ISL title winners can even partake in the upcoming 2024-25 edition.

At this point, the Nizams have to hope that some independent investor comes to solve their financial issues and gives a major inflow of cash to help them clear all dues and register some new players to be able to participate in the 2042-25 ISL campaign.
