I-League: Aizawl FC awarded 3 points following successful appeal against Churchill Brothers

Churchill Brothers FC Goa are placed second in the I-League 2024-25 season points table.

Aizawl FC has been awarded three crucial points and a +3-goal difference in the I-League 2024-25 following a successful appeal against Churchill Brothers FC Goa even though the match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Mizoram. The decision comes after Churchill Brothers FC Goa fielded an ineligible player in their match against Aizawl FC on February 17, 2025.

“The AIFF Disciplinary Committee has found Churchill Brothers FC Goa in breach of Articles 6.5.6 and 6.6.6 of the I-League 2024-25 Regulations for fielding an ineligible player in Match 86 of the I-League 2024-25 against Aizawl FC, played on February 17, 2025. The said match shall result in a forfeiture (0-3 loss) for Churchill Brothers FC Goa in accordance with Article 57 read with Article 26 of the AIFF Disciplinary Code,” the statement from AIFF read.

The league table’s top team, Inter Kashi, is only three points ahead of Churchill Brothers FC Goa. The AIFF Disciplinary Committee granted Inter Kashi three points earlier this week following a successful appeal against Namdhari FC for a comparable occurrence.

Recent results have intensified the competition for the 2024–25 I-League title. Churchill Brothers FC Goa is currently in second place with 29 points, while Inter Kashi, which was previously in second place with 28 points, has jumped to first place with 31 points. Real Kashmir FC and Gokulam Kerala FC, the two previous champions, are now in third and fourth positions, respectively, with 26 and 25 points.
