I-League 2023-24: Team of the Tournament

Several players from different I-League clubs will attract big clubs from the ISL.
I-League 2023-24 came to an end with Mohammedan Sporting Club winning the title and getting promoted to the Indian Super League (ISL). With 52 points from 24 matches, they remained at the top of the table followed by Sreenidi Deccan at the second place.
In the recently concluded season, apart from the top performances of the clubs, there had been some individual brilliance on the field. Including the foreign players, the Indian players also took the opportunity to show their prowess with the ball on the pitch.
Let’s look at the team of the tournament.
I-League 2023-24 team of the Tournament
GK – Muheet Shabir (Real Kashmir)
Real Kashmir’s Muheet Shabir was the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the tournament. He played 23 matches in the 2023-24 season and kept a clean sheet in 12 matches for his team.
RB – Nidhin Krishna (Gokulam Kerala)
Nidhin Krishna was a player to watch in the tournament. He was brilliant with his defensive tactics for Gokulam Kerala in the right-back position. Krishna has also been tested as a centre-back as well as left-back where he impressed his side.
CB – Shaher Saheen (Real Kashmir)
Real Kashmir’s centre-back Shaher Shaheen was in his best form in the tournament. Even though Real Kashmir couldn’t find the top spot in the tournament, he kept providing them solid resistance at the backline. He also scored three goals and provided two assists in the tournament.
CB – Harpreet Singh (Namdhari FC)
Towards the end of the tournament, Namdhari FC’s Harpreet Singh started making an impact on the field for his club at the backline. He even captained his side in one match, scored two goals, and provided two assists in the tournament.
LB – Dani Goncalves (Shillong Lajong)
Dani Goncalves was the best defender on the field for Shillong in the tournament. His performance helped Shillong to win some crucial matches in the tournament. Moreover, he has scored three goals and provided one assist in the tournament.
RM – Lalchungnunga Chhangte (Rajasthan United FC)
Lalchungnunga Chhangte’s performance in the tournament was quite dominating. Rajasthan FC’s midfielder scored five goals in the tournament and has also provided five assists, which mostly kept him as the most influential player of the club.
CM – Mario Barco (Inter Kashi FC)
Inter Kashi FC’s performance in this debut season grabbed several eyeballs in the tournament. They finished fourth in the league, which itself is an achievement. Mario Barco remained their best player, who scored 12 goals and had 12 assists in the 2023-24 season in 20 matches.
CM – Edmund Lalrindika (Inter Kashi FC)
The other central midfielder who finds his name on the list is Inter Kashi’s Edmund Lalrindika. He provided eight assists in the tournament, which is the second most by any player in a season. Moreover, Edmund also scored four goals for his side.
LM – Eddie Hernandez (Mohammedan SC)
With 13 goals in the tournament, Eddie Hernandez remains the top goal scorer for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the recently concluded I-League. He provided a strong hold for his side at the front end which helped them to keep dominating the whole season.
CF – Alex Sanchez (Gokulam Kerala)
Alex Sanchez has scored 19 goals in the season, which is the most by any player from any club. From the very beginning of the tournament, he kept on being the top player for Gokulam Kerala. He also provided five assists and scored a hat-trick against Rajasthan United.
CF – Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia (Aizawl FC)
Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia had been in the news throughout the season for his regular performances in the front end. He scored 15 goals, which is the most by any Indian player, and also broke the record of Sunil Chhetri and Mohammed Rafi who earlier had 14 goals in a particular season.
