The last round of the Indian Football League 2025-26 (IFL) season has come after a bunch of exciting match-ups, and it is now time for the business end of the tournament. The top six teams that have had their chance to play for the ISL promotion race in the championship stage have all come to an end on May 23rd. While teams are still trying to find an impactful rhythm to continue, a few players and teams have already shown their levels as they have stepped up to make a difference in front of the goal.

With the transformation of the I-League into the Indian Football League (IFL), clubs are stepping into a new era, as this will be a new landmark for Indian football, entering a new chapter in the Indian footballing culture.

Diamond Harbour FC pulled off an extraordinary thing in this IFL season as they got a 1-1 narrow draw against Dempo SC in their last game and secured ISL promotion relying on Hugo Diaz’s equaliser. Now they will face a stern test against Shillong Lajong FC at home, where they handed the IFL trophy.

As the final phase of the current round comes to an end, the race for the IFL Golden Boot has taken a new turn. Marcus Joseph is still in the top with seven goals, as Buam marches behind. Not only him, but also Antonio Moyano from Diamond Harbour, with five goals, but his teammate and midfield pair, Hugo Diaz, find themselves at the top of the list with Marcus Joseph, with eight goals.

The newest addition to the DHFC team has emerged as one of the best players for the club, as he scored a brace against Rajasthan United FC. Hugo Diaz is on the level with Marcus Joseph with eight goals.

The race for the IFL Golden Boot has begun with an electric spark, as the goal is the core part of any game. Goal is the heartbeat of any match; without scoring goals, it would be tough for any team to survive till the very end, as in the Indian Football League, many players have stepped up early to score as much as possible.

Aizawl FC’s Zomuansanga rises up from the ashes as he scored six goals so far this season. He is the sole addition from Aizawl FC, who are fighting in the IFL relegation stage for their existence.

As the IFL continues to unfold, the legacy it brings and the competition among the top scorers begin.

Buam and Sana maintain the spot

Shillong Lajong FC

If we are talking about goals and we don’t talk much about Shillong Lajong FC, it will not be done. One of the biggest early talking points from the Shillong Lajong team is that they find themselves second on the table in the Indian Football League (IFL) championship round, as Phrangki Buam has scored seven goals so far.

He has been a key player for Shillong Lajong FC, impressing with his ability to create chances and intelligent movement in the final third, making him special. Representing the most exciting teams in the league, Buam has been very vital in keeping Shillong Lajong very strong.

Shillong clicked a thrashing win against Chanmari FC, where they both scored for the team. Also, they cruised past Rajasthan FC in their last match with a whooping score line of 4-2, where he scored for the team.

Aizawl FC’s Zomuansanga make his name

With a relegation-fighting side, becoming an IFL Golden Boot contender with six goals has been really impressive. And Aizawl FC star Zomuansanga has just done this magic as he scored six goals for his club. His immense pace and sheer control of the ball made him have an immediate impact on all the players. With Aizawl FC in the relegation zone, he did well, but they lost to Real Kashmir in their last game.

Hugo Diaz is the new addition to the list at the top

The Spanish midfielder Hugo Diaz Rodriguez, the newest addition to the squad of Diamond Harbour FC, made his name with some good games he played under Kibu Vicuna. He scored eight goals for the Bengal outfit in this IFL edition. In the last match against Dempo SC, he bagged the solitary goal for the Bengal outfit. With his goal, Diamond Harbour FC secured automatic promotion in the 2026-27 ISL season and clinched the IFL trophy.

The partnership between Antonio Moyano and Hugo Diaz is the vital key for DHFC head coach Kibu Vicuna, as it’s the mantra of their success in the midfield area. From controlling the game to creating chances, they have done multiple times simultaneously for the team.
