India U20 women’s team are gearing up for a challenge that promises to shake up the youth women’s football landscape in India. The young Tigresses will travel to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for two key friendlies against the home side on 13 and 16 July 2025.

These matches are vital, as they will serve as dress rehearsals for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, scheduled for 2-10 August this year.

That is why every training session, every minute of play, and every tactical detail will count more than ever before the showpiece event. The Uzbek team will test the mental and physical endurance of the Indian players.

The federation (AIFF) is also well aware that these friendlies can make the difference between an early exit or a dream ticket to the continental showpiece. The coaching staff has been fine-tuning tactical coordination and physical preparation.

India U20 Women’s team gear up for AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers

India U20 have been drawn in Group D for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026 Qualifiers, alongside Myanmar, Indonesia, and Turkmenistan. The group draw took place on April 28, 2025, at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. All matches in this group will be played in Myanmar between August 6 and 10 in a centralised single-round-robin format.

This edition of the qualifiers features 33 teams, divided into eight groups—Group A has five teams, while the other seven groups include four teams each. Only the eight group winners and the three best second-placed teams will move on to the final tournament, joining hosts Thailand to complete the list of 12 teams. The main competition will run from April 1 to 18, 2026, in Thailand.

This will be the first time the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup will feature 12 teams, an increase from the usual eight-team format used until 2024. The top four teams in the final tournament will earn direct qualification to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2026.

India were placed in Pot 2 for the draw, with the seeding based on a points system reflecting performances in the previous three editions of the tournament.
