The Indian football team will look forward to grab a win against Singapore.

The Indian national team will look to start 2025 on a brighter note when they take to the field in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup third-round qualifiers. The Blue Tigers will be keen to put the past year behind their back and rewrite their story in the best possible way.

A winless year coupled with Igor Stimac’s sacking and Sunil Chhetri’s retirement, made 2024 a rough and tough year.

The qualifiers will be Manolo Marquez’s first major assignment and he will be eyeing his first win after four failed attempts in the year gone by. India have been drawn into Group C this time alongside Hong Kong, Singapore and neighbours Bangladesh.

Manolo Marquez’s men are the highest-ranked team in their group while Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangladesh are ranked 156th, 161st and 185th respectively.

24 teams have been divided into six groups of four teams each. The games will be played in a home-and-away round-robin format and the six group winners will join the remaining 18 teams in Saudi Arabia. India emerged as the group winners the last time they took to the field in the third-round qualifiers.

The upcoming game will be India’s 14th meeting with the Singapore national football team. Singapore are leading the way with seven wins while the Blue Tigers have won four games and two games have ended in a draw.

The last time both teams came up against each other was back in September 2022 and the game ended in a 1-1 draw where Ashqiue Kuruniyan and Ikhsan Fandi scored a goal each.

India vs Singapore: All-time head-to-head record

Total matches played: 13

India wins: 4

Draws: 2

Singapore wins: 7

India defeated Singapore just once in the 21st century and their victory dates back to 2004 while Singapore won two games and the remaining one game ended in a tie. It remains to be seen if India can better their head-to-head record or if will Singapore continue their dominance in the upcoming qualifiers.
