India move up in the updated FIFA Women’s World Rankings

The Indian women’s football team have seen a positive jump in the recently updated FIFA Women’s World Rankings following the conclusion of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026.

The Blue Tigresses successfully moved up one place in the latest rankings, rising from 69th to 68th after a successful SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 campaign where they were undefeated in the tournament.

India now have 1368.70 coefficient points and went past Bosnia and Herzegovina recently to take the spot.

How did India manage to climb up a spot?

The major reason behind India climbing a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings was undoubtedly their unbeaten title winning campaign at the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026. However, another key factor was Bosnia and Herzegovina dropping significant points in the latest rankings.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, who were ranked 67th before the update, played out a 0-0 draw against Lithuania in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 UEFA qualifiers on June 5th, 2026.

Lithuania were ranked outside the top 100 before the match and the draw proved very costly for Bosnia and Herzegovina, who lost 16.56 coefficient points as a result.

The points deduction saw Bosnia and Herzegovina slip down the rankings, allowing Iran, previously ranked 68th, to move up to 67th without playing any games recently, while India climbed from 69th to 68th.

Meanwhile, Lithuania benefited very much from the result, rising seven places to 94th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

Bangladesh also enjoyed a rise in the rankings, moving up five spots to 107th despite their defeat to India in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 final.

On the other hand, Bahrain suffered one of the major drops in the rankings, falling nine places to 117th. Bosnia and Herzegovina also slipped three spots to 70th following their costly draw against Lithuania in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 UEFA qualifiers.

At the top of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, Spain continue to lead chart followed by the USA, Germany, England and Japan.
