Indian men’s senior football team will play against Brazil for the first time in history.
On 3rd October 2026, the Indian men’s senior football team will play the Brazil football team in a historic match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Kolkata.
The game will be the second match that India will host and play in the September-October international window. India already played a 1-1 draw against Panama on 25th September at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru & will play Uruguay on 6th October at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata, following the Brazil clash on 3rd October.
Both India and Brazil have a rich history when it comes to the sport of football, which is why, it is difficult to imagine that this will be the first time that an Indian team plays against Brazil in a football match.
And it most certainly is not the case!
In the total 4 matches, where an Indian team have faced Brazil, which included the women’s team and youth sides as well, there have only been 2 goals from 2 separate matches.

The first edition of the BRICS Cup was hosted by India in Goa. The BRICS nations decided to make the BRICS Cup exclusively for the men’s U-17 teams, to promote grassroots development, youth sports and cultural exchanges.
In the tournament, the Blue Colts lost all 3 matches of the tournament to their opponents, Russia, China and South Africa, without managing to find the back of the net in any game. The team had no chances of qualifying for the finals yet had an unwavering spirit when entering the game against Brazil.
The opponents Brazil struck first with a 2nd minute goal from Brenner Dsouza. Despite conceding early, the Blue Colts kept on pressing Brazil from everywhere until, in the 19th minute of the game, when Komal Thatal received a long ball on the left wing.
After taking a couple of touches to dance around the Brazilian defenders, Komal reached the edge of the opponent box and took a shot.
The shot curled all the way to the back of the net, giving India their first goal against Brazil and their first goal in the tournament.
Unfortunately, the goal was not enough as India would concede in the 30th minute and then later Vinicius Jr would score Brazil’s third goal in the 81st minute of the game.

Manisha Kalyan
On 26th November 2021, the Indian women’s team would play their first match in the TFF 2021 against the Brazil women’s team. The Blue Tigresses participated in the tournament as a way of preparing for what was then the upcoming 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
The game between India and Brazil would also serve as a farewell match for former Brazil national team legend, Miraildes Maciel Mota (better known as Formiga).
The match started with Brazil taking the lead in the very first minute of the game, with a goal by Debinha as result of a rebound off the Indian custodian Aditi Chauhan.
The Blue Tigresses would then switch to a more defensive style of play to stop the constant attacks from Brazil, relying mostly on counter-attacks to provide goal scoring opportunities.
In the 8th minute of the match, one of the counterattacks of India led to the ball being collected by Manisha Kalyan at the halfway line, with no Brazilian defender ahead of her.
The Indian forward took a couple of touches to get closer to the edge of the defensive box of Brazil, where after reaching, she took a left footed shot that hugged the ground all the way till the right bottom corner of the goal.
Despite the equalizer from Manisha bringing much joy and relief to the Indian team, Brazil did not give up even a little bit and kept attacking with full force during the entire game and ended up scoring 5 more goals, to win the game with a scoreline of 6-1.
