Mixed start to 2025
The year started in January for Blue Tigresses with a dominating performance where they thrashed Maldives 11-1, registering one of the biggest victories in their history.
The team then travelled to the UAE to take part in the 2025 Pink Ladies Cup. Trouncing Jordan in the opener, they continued their winning streak but had to deal with a blow when they succumbed against much stronger Russia and South Korea.
After almost three months of a gap Indian team returned to action in recent double friendlies against Uzbekistan.
The run of poor results continued in the friendlies as Indian Women’s Football Team lost both the matches against Uzbekistan with a solitary goal margin. These fixtures, played in Bengaluru, made it clear that India will have to redeem themselves before the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The Blue Tigresses looked like a completely different unit in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers in Thailand. Leaving behind the setbacks suffered in the Pink Ladies Cup and friendlies against Uzbekistan, Blue Tigresses embarked on a victorious run.
Running riot against Mongolia in the opener, the Blue Tigresses smashed 13 goals and kept an impressive clean sheet. The second match also saw India dictating terms to Timor-Leste, as they registered a comprehensive 4-0 victory. The goal-scoring streak was kept intact against Iraq with five goals on the scoresheet for India.
The highlight of the qualifying campaign for India was their banger of an outing against a higher-ranked Thailand in the last qualifying match. In a see-saw battle, Blue Tigresses edged Thailand 2-1 to finish the qualifiers with an impeccable record, highlighting their temperament to fight till the end to pull off results.

Focus shifts to 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup
After cruising through the qualifiers, Blue Tigresses are riding on a wave of positivity. However, a stiffer challenge is waiting for them. An excellent campaign in the qualifiers earned India a place in the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup. The tournament will decide the fate of a lot of those involved with the team.
The Blue Tigresses have been grouped with Vietnam, Japan, and Chinese Taipei in Group C. The tournament will be hosted by Australia, and India will play their group stage matches in Perth and Sydney. The Blue Tigress will be starting the campaign against Vietnam on March 4, 2026, in Perth, before meeting Japan and Chinese Taipei on March 7th and 10th, respectively.
