Intercontinental Cup 2024: India vs Mauritius – Build-up
The Indian football team will take to the field for the first time since June. India vs Mauritius will be the opening match of the Intercontinental Cup 2024. A lot has changed at the national team ever since with the appointment of Spanish manager Manolo Marquez as the new head coach being the biggest talking point. India will begin its Intercontinental Cup campaign with a clash against Mauritius in Hyderabad.
While the Blue Tigers come into this game after a defeat against Qatar in the last fixture, Mauritius picked up a win against Eswatini in June. Both sides haven’t had a memorable 2024 campaign so far with India yet to win a game this year and Mauritius losing three out of their last four games.
Chhangte will be the Blue Tigers’ main man upfront in the absence of Sunil Chhetri. The Mumbai City forward is currently the highest active goalscorer in the national team with eight strikes to his name, including a historic goal against reigning Asian champions Qatar in the last game. His pace coupled with his agility and trickery makes him a lethal weapon for Manolo Marquez and his team.
Lindsay Rose will have huge responsibilities on his shoulders going into the tournament to neutralize the danger possessed by the Indian attackers.. Rose has represented France at different age group levels before joining forces with Mauritius.
He has the pedigree of playing alongside the best players in the world during his time in France. The 32-year-old can operate both as a centre-back and a right-back and will be an instrumental part of the Dodos’ setup.
ndia have the upper hand coming into this game, thanks to their home advantage and a better head-to-head record against Mauritius. Moreover, India also has a much better FIFA ranking when compared to their counterparts and Manolo Marquez will do everything in his power to get off to the best possible start to his stint.
