Intercontinental Cup 2024: India vs Syria – Build-up

After a disappointing draw against a lower-ranked Mauritius in their opening Intercontinental Cup encounter, India will be eyeing a win against title favorites Syria. The Blue Tigers need nothing less than all three points against the Qasioun Eagles to get their hands on the trophy and slip-ups at this stage will not go down well with Manolo Marquez’s side.

Syria on the other hand has nothing to worry about. They started their campaign by knocking out Mauritius on Friday with a 2-0 win. The visitors sit comfortably at the top of the table with three points to their name and need to avoid a defeat against the Blue Tigers to get the trophy. A win or a draw will favor Syria and make them the latest champions of the Intercontinental Cup

Manvir Singh will be the man to watch out for India in the game against Syria. The Mohun Bagan forward is the second-highest active goal scorer for India with seven goals in 45 appearances to his name. Manvir’s pace, physical presence, and ability to be the difference in the game make him very valuable for Manolo Marquez’s side. If India wants to pull off an upset against Syria, Manvir will need to bring his best game to the table.

Mahmoud Al-Mawas is Syria’s highest active goalscorer and the eighth-record goalscorer with 16 strikes and 94 international caps to his name.

He put up a great performance against Mauritius, finding the back of the net, and helping his side get a comfortable 2-0 win. The 31-year-old’s creativity and pace will come in very handy for Syria in the upcoming match.

The winner of this game will take the trophy home. While Syria are in pole position to be crowned as the new champions of the Intercontinental Cup, India are expected to go all out to defend their title. We expect a low-margin win for Syria.
