ISL 2025-26: Ezzejjari inspires East Bengal to a commanding comeback win over SC Delhi

East Bengal FC leads the charge in the ISL points table
East Bengal FC produced a dominant second-half display to defeat Sporting Club Delhi 4-1 in Matchweek 2 of the ISL 2025-26 season at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Saturday.
Despite conceding early, the Red and Gold Brigade showed composure and attacking quality to overturn the deficit.
Youssef Ezzejjari led the charge with a clinical brace, while Edmund Lalrindika and Miguel Figueira also found the net in a convincing performance that sent East Bengal to the top of the table with six points from two matches.
From early shock to total control

The visitors stunned the home crowd in just the fourth minute when Augustine Lalrochana finished off a swift counterattack. But East Bengal’s response was immediate.
Three minutes later, Edmund Lalrindika unleashed a powerful volley from distance to restore parity. The equalizer shifted momentum firmly in favor of the hosts, who continued to pile on the pressure.
Their attacking intent paid off again in the 12th minute when Ezzejjari calmly converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-1. The forward doubled his tally five minutes before the break, latching onto a perfectly timed through ball from Miguel Figueira and finishing smartly through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Sporting Club Delhi tried to fight back in the second half, creating a few promising openings, but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
East Bengal managed the tempo effectively and sealed the win in stoppage time when Figueira curled a superb left-footed strike into the top corner to make it 4-1.
Domination at its finest by East Bengal FC

Conceding inside four minutes could have unsettled East Bengal, but their quick response underlined their growing maturity. The midfield, orchestrated by Figueira, ensured control after the initial setback.
Defensively, there were moments of concern, particularly during Delhi’s brief second-half push. Goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill was called into action to preserve the lead, while the backline had to stay alert against quick transitions.
For SC Delhi, the challenge remains defensive organization. While their counterattacks showed promise, lapses at the back and missed chances proved costly.
In the end, it was a night that belonged to Ezzejjari and East Bengal, a comeback victory that not only showcased attacking firepower but also signaled serious intent for the season ahead.
