Mohammedan SC had a season to forget in the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL), as everything that could go wrong for them ended up going horribly wrong.

They headed into the campaign with a squad that didn’t have a single foreign player, mostly because of the transfer ban placed on the club by FIFA that tied their hands in the 2025 summer window.

The Black and White Brigade had to endure struggles throughout the 2025-26 campaign, as their squad’s overall lack of quality and the absence of highly experienced players held them back.

Mohammedan SC suffered the humiliation of relegation from the ISL at the end of the campaign, failing to hold their own in their second campaign in the top division.

Despite Mohammedan SC fighting their hardest to grind through results, the overall lack of quality ended up holding them back. They failed to win a single match, being the only side to do so in the 2025-26 ISL, and were only able to pick up a few meagre points from a forgettable campaign.

What’s Next for Mohammedan SC?

For the Black Panthers, it’ll be a case of looking to fight their way back into the ISL by winning the Indian Football League title. Before everything else, the club needs to work hard on resolving their financial troubles and finding investors that can help them get out of the tight spot and at least end their transfer ban.

Mohammedan SC will then look to change up their squad with some necessary signings in the 2026 summer window, especially in roping in some quality and experienced foreign players that can help them excel in the IFL. They might also need to look for a more knowledgeable head coach, preferably a foreigner, to help make them play more dominant, entertaining football going forward.

The Black Panthers are likely to start their pre-season in July, starting with the Calcutta Football League and then the Durand Cup –before the IFL campaign is likely to start. They’ll need to resolve all internal problems before that and create a competitive squad for the 2026-27 season to help them start playing winning football and bringing joy to their fans again.
