Mohun Bagan SG will look to continue their good run of form

Mohun Bagan SG look to maintain their winning run in the 2025-26 Indian Super League campaign in the Mini Kolkata derby against Mohammedan SC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday (28 February 2026).

With the Black Panthers yet to pick up a point this season, they’ll need something truly special to stop the Mariners as Mohun Bagan SG look to pick up their third straight win.

The Stakes

Mohammedan SC

For Mohammedan SC, it’s been a pretty rough start to the 2025-26 ISL campaign as they’ve lost both their opening matches so far. Playing with an all-Indian, relatively inexperienced squad, things aren’t looking all that positive for Mehrajuddin Wadoo’s squad and he will need to do something special to enable his side to get a positive result against the Mariners.

The Black Panthers will need to be extremely strong defensively to neutralize Mohun Bagan’s threat and be able to keep themselves in the game, while they also must be clinical in converting their chances well to get a result.

A win or even a draw can be a huge boost for the Mohammedan players’ morale, but another crushing loss can further diminish the self-belief in the squad.

For Mohun Bagan SG, it’s been a pretty comfortable start to the Sergio Lobera era as they’ve been able to get two compelling victories so far. However, the Mariners realize that consistency is key for them to stay on top of the 2025-26 ISL title race and put the pressure on their fellow title challengers.

Lobera will be urging his players to further glisten up their possession-based style, be quicker with their forward passes to create more chances and efficiently finish them to torment Mohammedan SC.

Another dominant win for Mohun Bagan SG will definitely raise the confidence levels among the players and help them move into title-challengers mode, but dropping points against this Mohammedan side could have potential dire consequences for their title charge.

Team News

Mohammedan SC should have the same squad as they did in their recent loss to FC Goa.

For Mohun Bagan SG, the only absentee in their squad remains Asish Rai – who is likely to miss the entirety of the 2025-26 ISL campaign.

The grave reality for Mohammedan SC is that they will have to play the majority of the match against Mohun Bagan SG in their own half and hoping to counter their plans.

They will probably face a flurry of shots on goal and that is why their goalkeeper, Subhajit, has to produce a particularly good performance.

Subhajit has had a decent campaign so far, making a few nice saves in the two matches for the Black Panthers – but he needs to significantly pick up his performance levels to hold his own against Mohun Bagan SG.

The 24-year-old needs to be extremely proactive in his goal in making important saves to frustrate the Mariners’ players and motivate his teammates to take the fight to them and grab an important result.

Dimitri Petratos (Mohun Bagan SG)

Dimitri Petratos is almost like a man reborn under the system of Sergio Lobera, who has established the Aussie as his favored no.10. This is giving Petratos a lot of freedom to roam around wherever he feels like in the opposition half as well as getting to see more of the ball, which lets him dictate his side’s attacking build-up play.

Petratos has had an impressive start to the campaign, grabbing a goal and assist in the two appearances, but he will now be looking for more goal contributions in the Mini Kolkata Derby.

A player renowned for his ability to pop up big time in the major games, Petratos looks to torment the Mohammedan players with his clever final third delivery and off-the-ball movement to enhance Mohun Bagan SG’s attacking threat and help them to another big win.
