Jamshedpur FC played their first-ever game in ISL against the Highlanders in Guwahati back in 2017. Ten-man Jamshedpur FC, led by Scott Coppell, went on to play a goalless draw against the Highlanders. Cameroonian defender and former Burnley player Andre Bikey was sent off in that game.
The streets of Jamshedpur still recall that stunning bicycle goal by Wellington Priori as Jamshedpur FC won the game 1-0 at Furnace in their inaugural season.
After that, four consecutive draws were played out between these two sides, and it took the Highlanders eight games to find their first win in this fixture.
In the 2021-22 season, when Jamshedpur won the ISL Shield under Owen Coyle, they completed a season double over the Highlanders, and Aidy Boothroyd continued the legacy in the 2022-23 season as well. Since 2024, the tables have turned, and the North East rewrote a new chapter in this rivalry.
Last season, Pedro Benali’s men went on to thrash Jamshedpur FC twice, including that famous 5-0 defeat in Guwahati and 2-0 win in Jamshedpur. Stars aligned perfectly for Khalid Jamil and his side avenged their defeats by eliminating Jamshedpur FC in Shillong by defeating them 2-0.
In the Super Cup, Jamshedpur went on to defeat North East United FC in penalties, and the Red Miners went on to reach their first-ever Super Cup Finals in 2025. In the 2025-26 AIFF Super Cup, these two sides were drawn in the same group, and Jamshedpur once again spoiled Benali’s party by playing a 2-2 draw.
