East Bengal go top of the ISL table after a win against Mumbai City FC

East Bengal FC pulled off a stunning 1-2 win over Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena in the ISL. The hosts started on the front foot and took just eight minutes to break the deadlock. Brandon Fernandes scored a screamer into the left top corner and put his side ahead. East Bengal replied strongly and came out all guns blazing, but Phurba Lachenpa stood tall and neutralised all the attacks until the 58th minute.

Joni Kauko conceded a foul inside the box and gave away a penalty kick at the beginning of the second half. Youssef Ezzejjari made no mistake in putting it past the keeper and registered his tenth goal of the season, and also became the first player to hit double figures this season. Both teams were eyeing the winning goal, and it indeed arrived for East Bengal through a Nandhakumar Sekar strike.

East Bengal FC have jumped up to the peak of the ISL standings with 21 points. Jamshedpur FC have dropped down to second with 21 points in eleven matches. Mohun Bagan have further come down to third with 20 points, while FC Goa took the fourth position with 19 points. Mumbai City FC have been relegated to fifth with 19 points. Bengaluru FC hold the sixth position with 17 points.

Punjab FC are still ranked seventh with fourteen points while Inter Kashi have not moved from the eighth position. Kerala Blasters FC continue to take the ninth spot with eleven points while SC Delhi remained at tenth. NorthEast United FC are still positioned eleventh. Chennaiyin FC sit at the twelfth place with nine points. Odisha FC are ranked thirteenth while Mohammedan Sporting still find themselves at the bottom of the table.
