Chennaiyin FC begin the rebuild for ISL 2026-27

As the summer transfer window moves ahead, the things get more interesting as the ISL clubs finally make a move in the market. Adding to that, Chennaiyin FC complete the signing of FC Goa’s Ayush Dev Chhetri and Kerala Blasters’ Muhammed Saheef on a two-year contract keeping them at the club till 2028.

This comes after Chennaiyin FC recently acquired the services of Brison Fernandes from FC Goa and announced the contract extension of head coach Clifford Miranda.

Both Ayush Chhetri’s and Muhammed Saheef’s signing portrays clear message that club is ready to build for the future moving forward rather than investing on veterans.

Investments for the future

Both Ayush Chhetri’s and Muhammed Saheef’s signing clearly give a statement that these are the investments for the future. Chennaiyin FC who were known to bank on more experienced player have now taken a different step keeping in mind their performance in the previous seasons.

Ayush Chhetri and Muhammed Saheef are both 23 years old and bring experience of playing for Indian U-23 setup.

Despite his age, Ayush Chhetri has 66 ISL appearances to his name playing over 4000 minutes in total in ISL.

Ayush also brings experience of playing at the continental stage with 5 appearances to his name in the ACL Two one of which being against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.

Muhammed Saheef, on the other hand is another youngster who plays as a left back. The left back was a part of the Kerala Blasters’ academy and is a player to watch out for.

How can these signings help Chennaiyin FC?

The signing of Ayush Chhetri and Muhammed Saheef could prove to be very important additions to the Chennaiyin FC squad.

Ayush with his ability to dictate the midfield gives the team more balance especially if they pair him alongside Hnamte in the midfield. This could help the Marina Machans to dictate the game in the midfield and play fluid football.

Meanwhile, Muhammed Saheef offers reliability at the back and becomes an option to be the left back in the team.

At just 23 years of age both these players fit Chennaiyin FC’s long term vision perfectly to invest in youngsters.

This will not only help the club the coming season but also be options for the later season as these Indian youngsters continue to grow
