Mumbai City FC have welcomed five new foreign recruits ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) season, opting for a complete overhaul of their overseas contingent as they look to begin a new chapter.
The Islanders finished third last season, narrowly missing out on the top spot by a solitary point behind Mohun Bagan Super Giant & eventual champions East Bengal.
It was a campaign marked by significant changes off the pitch, with City Football Group’s departure midway through the season adding to the uncertainty surrounding the club. Despite the challenges, Mumbai put together a strong campaign under head coach Petr Kratky, who has since moved on to become an assistant coach at City Football Group sister club, Melbourne City FC.
Kratky’s tenure saw several youngsters make their mark, with Noufal, Puipuia and Tluanga among those who impressed and offered plenty of encouragement for the future.
The Islanders now enter the new season under the guidance of Spanish coach Manolo Marquez. Having spent six seasons in Indian football, including spells with Hyderabad FC and FC Goa, & a stint with the Indian National Team, Marquez brings a wealth of experience to Mumbai on a one-year deal.
With a change in ownership structure and budget constraints shaping their summer recruitment, Mumbai City have adopted a more cautious approach to the transfer market. The club have looked to blend veteran players with exciting overseas talent as they rebuild their foreign contingent from the ground up.

The Colombian striker has scored 34 goals across three seasons in India, having played for Chennaiyin FC, Punjab FC and NorthEast United, while netting 11 times in 21 appearances during his most recent season in Malaysia.
While his work rate and fitness have been concerns at previous clubs, Gil is a proven striker who delivers goals when fit.
His simple, direct profile resembles the type of striker Manolo Marquez has favoured, with similarities to Bartholomew Ogbeche and Armando Sadiku. If he can stay fit, he could prove to be a reliable goalscoring outlet for Mumbai.
