ISL side NorthEast United announce signing of Abdul Rabeeh on two-year deal

Malappuram born attacker joins The Highlanders from FC Goa
NorthEast United FC have officially announced the signing of winger Abdul Rabeeh on a two-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year. The 25-year-old joins the Highlanders as a versatile addition to the squad ahead of the new season.
A product of Bengaluru FC’s renowned youth academy, Rabeeh began attracting attention with his performances for Kerala Blasters’ reserve side, where he played a key role in the club’s successful 2019-20 Kerala Premier League campaign.
He then represented Luca Soccer Club before earning a move to Hyderabad FC ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Rabeeh brings experience to the squad

At Hyderabad, Rabeeh established himself as one of the league’s most exciting and versatile wide players. He was part of the squad that won the Indian Super League title in his debut season with the club and went on to make 61 ISL appearances, registering four assists while featuring across multiple positions on the right flank. His pace, dribbling ability and relentless work rate made him a valuable asset both in attack and defence.
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Rabeeh joined FC Goa, where he added further top-flight experience by making 13 ISL appearances and contributing one assist for the Gaurs.
Equally comfortable playing as a right winger or right-back, the 25-year-old arrives at NorthEast United FC with over 74 Indian Super League appearances, proven winning pedigree, and the versatility to strengthen the Highlanders on both ends of the pitch.
Speaking on the move, Abdul Rabeeh said.
“Joining NorthEast United FC feels like the right step for me at this stage of my career. I have always admired how this club backs its players and gives them the platform to express themselves on the pitch. The passion of the fans here is something special, and I can’t wait to pull on this jersey and give everything I have for the Highlanders. I’m ready to work hard, learn from the coach and the squad, and help this team achieve big things.”
A strong addition to the squad

NorthEast United FC head coach Juan Pedro Benali spoke about the signing, praising the player’s versatility and the ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.
Juan Pedro Benali said, “Rabeeh is a player we have tracked for some time, and we are very happy to bring him to the club. He gives us quality and versatility on the right side, someone who can beat defenders with his pace and also do a job defensively when we need him to. In my opinion, he is one of the most skilful players in India, and his ability in one-on-one situations can make a real difference.”
“He is hungry to improve and fits exactly the profile of player we want to build around. I am confident he will be an important part of our squad this season.” he added.
Welcoming Rabeeh to the club, CEO Mandar Tamhane said.
“Rabeeh is a player with the right mentality and the versatility we value highly at NorthEast United FC. He has already proven himself at the highest level in Indian football, winning the ISL with Hyderabad, and we believe he still has plenty of room to grow.”
“Bringing in players who are ambitious, hardworking and eager to improve is central to the culture we are building here, and Rabeeh fits that profile perfectly. We are delighted to welcome him to the Highlanders.”
