Anwar Ali joined Mohun Bagan in the 2023-24 season.
Ranjit Bajaj started the saga by claiming that Anwar Ali has left Mohun Bagan. Bajan claimed that the defender’s loan deal with the Mariners has been terminated, throwing his immediate future into uncertainty. As per Ranjit Bajaj the new FIFA regulations under the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) loan agreements exceeding one year are not allowed.
Anwar Ali, on loan from Delhi FC since last season, was expected to continue with Mohun Bagan for four years. However, the recent implementation of the RSTP has put a roadblock in the plans. This unexpected turn of events could mean that Ali is reintegrated into the Delhi FC squad.
Looking ahead, the Indian international is eager to secure a permanent transfer back to the Indian Super League (ISL). This sudden turn of events has opened a window of opportunity for several ISL clubs, with two of the biggest contenders already circling. The next 24 hours are going to be crucial in determining Anwar Ali’s next destination after the loan termination.
While the specific clubs remain undisclosed, speculation is rife about Mumbai City FC. Anwar’s experience and leadership qualities make him a valuable asset to any team. His defensive solidity and ability to marshal the backline will be coveted by several ISL franchises.
Mohun Bagan, despite the loan termination, might still be interested in acquiring Ali permanently. The defender enjoyed a decent season with the Mariners, forming a solid partnership at the heart of their defence. However, with the new FIFA regulations in place, they will need to negotiate a transfer fee with Delhi FC to secure his services.
For Delhi FC, Ali’s return presents both challenges and opportunities. While his experience would bolster their defence, they might be tempted to capitalize on the current interest and potentially secure a lucrative transfer fee.
Anwar Ali, on his part, remains focused on returning to the ISL. He has expressed his desire to play regularly and contribute to a team’s success. This transfer saga is likely to be a fast-paced one, with several clubs vying for his signature.
The coming hours will be decisive. Will Ali reunite with Mohun Bagan permanently or will another ISL giant manage to snatch him? Only time will tell where the experienced defender lands, but one thing is certain – the ongoing transfer window just got interesting.
Update: Mohun Bagan sources are denying Ranjit Bajaj’s claim.
As per sources from Mohun Bagan, they are denying the claims of Ranjit and stated that Anwar Ali is still a Mohun Bagan player and is likely to feature in the Durand Cup 2024.
