Gerard Zaragoza reveals how he engineered Bengaluru FC's turnaround in ISL 2024-25

The Blues remain unbeaten after six games in the Indian Super League this season.
Indian Super League (ISL) leaders Bengaluru FC head coach Gerard Zaragoza reflected on his team’s impressive start ahead of their away match against FC Goa. While talking about his team’s progression since last season, the Spaniard outlined the challenges that lie ahead. The Blues are currently unbeaten in the ISL and have conceded only one goal this season.
Gerard Zaragoza addresed a pre-match press conference and shared his awareness about every match presenting a unique challenge and why the Blues continue to win games.
Bengaluru FC handling business away from home
While Gerard Zaragoza emphasized that playing away from home is always a tricky situation, Gerard Zaragoza stated, “We cannot control the past. And we can try to control a little bit the future if we can control the future. And last season was not good for us away from home. But this season we played two matches and we have four points.”
In two away games this season, the Blues have won one game and drew the other. Gerard Zaragoza also shared his team’s understanding of being the hunted rather than being the hunter due to their fast start this season. Bengaluru were able to show real mettle in raucous and intimidating atmospheres like the one in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi during matchweek 6.

The Blues look hungry and united this season
A big reason for Bengaluru’s success has been their strong camaraderie and teamwork that has been on display at home and away games. The Spaniard reserved special praise for the depth of talent within the squad, including promising youngsters who are eager to contribute. While talking about how he manages them, Gerard Zaragoza stated, “When you win, everything is easier. That’s like this. They have strong characters. But they show that in between them, convening, we are leading the games.”
The fantastic start to the season has led to a positive atmosphere within the team. Zaragoza also pointed out how during recent training sessions, the players have shown incredible dedication and skill, fostering a competitive spirit that pushes everyone to excel.
While the Islanders are going through a rough patch of form, the Spaniard is aware of the potential threats posed by their key players. Zaragoza emphasized the need for concentration and tactical discipline in their upcoming match against Manolo Marquez’s men.
The Blues’ current success can be attributed to a combination of strong leadership with veteran players, a cohesive team spirit, and a commitment to improve game-by-game. With a visit to the Fatorda Stadium coming up, the Blues and Zaragoza will be looking to capture all three points.
