The Blues last won silverware two years back and are in imminent need of a revamp.

Bengaluru FC showed promise under Simon Grayson in 2022 as they had a solid start, winning the Durand Cup right away. Come the Indian Super League season, however, the Blues couldn’t get over the edge.

Bengaluru FC managed to finish fourth and qualify for the playoffs but finished runners-up as ATK Mohun Bagan eventually beat them to the trophy. The same fate haunted them in the Super Cup as Odisha FC pipped them to the title.

They went tantalisingly close on both occasions, losing on penalties in the ISL Final and by a goal in the Super Cup Final. But the next season they plummeted to a 10th-placed finish.

Simon Grayson was axed midway through the season by the management due to the team’s underwhelming performances. Spaniard Gerard Zaragoza was brought in to take charge at the helm and managed to somehow keep the Blues afloat.

In his first full season at the club, Zaragoza aims to tinker around and reinvent Bengaluru’s winning formula. For the first step lets see all the transfers completed by Bengaluru FC so far in the 2024-25 summer window:

Incomings

Edgar Mendez

The 2016-17 Copa Del Rey finalist will be a stunning addition to Bengaluru’s attack with his well-rounded attributes. Edgar Mendez is not only a creative playmaker with his exquisite dribbling, but his record (as top scorer in the same edition of the Copa Del Rey) proves he can be a lethal finisher too.

Jorge Pereyra Diaz

Former Kerala Blasters ace Jorge Pereyra Diaz made a name for himself in the league with his flashy dribbling and eye for goal. With a gigantic 29 goals and eight assists in 58 appearances, Diaz’s versatility in playing as a target man or a winger will be influential. Expect him to partner well with former Deportivo man Edgar Mendez and give the fans a linkup to remember.

Alberto Noguera

In his 5th season of Indian football, Alberto Noguera has decided to switch to the southern side. The Spanish trequartista has portrayed a combination of vision and clinicality with nine goals and 13 assists in the ISL.

Rahul Bheke

Bengaluru’s ISL 2018-19 final goalscorer has returned to the club after a fruitful stint at Mumbai City FC. Zaragoza will want to rely on Rahul Bheke to mentor the younger defenders and lead his men to glory.

Pedro Capo

The addition of a natural leader like Pedro Capo with vast experience in the Spanish leagues speaks volumes of the club’s intent. Capo is a natural defensive midfielder who can be fielded in multiple defensive positions and can aid his team in playing out from the back. The Spaniard is going to be a solid option in midfield for Zaragoza’s side this season.

Mohammed Salah

Liverpool and Egypt ace Mohammed Salah’s namesake is actually a left-back who arrived from Punjab FC this season. However Salah is a good defensive fullback who can combat the league’s best wingers and is good at 1v1 defending.

Lalthuammawia Ralte

31-year-old Ralte has played second fiddle at multiple stages at his parent club, Bengaluru FC and then at his former club Odisha FC. The shot-stopper failed to nail down a starting spot at Odisha due to Amrinder Singh’s presence. But now that he’s back, expect him to support the evergreen Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and provide a solid rotation option with his wealth of experience.

Outgoings

Javi Hernandez

Spanish maestro Javi Hernandez scored five times for the Blues last season but left for Jamshedpur FC this season. Noguera will be expected to fill in his duties.

Oliver Drost

The Danish striker featured only nine times for Bengaluru FC and managed a solitary assist. The left-footed attacker was brought in to add variety to the attack but was released after an underwhelming campaign.

Slavko Damjanovic

Former Chennaiyin and Mohun Bagan defensive rock Damjanovic played a majority of the Blues campaign in ISL 2023/24 and was a reliable starter. However, the Montenegro defender left for Persebaya this window.

Keziah Veendorp

Bengaluru FC brought in Dutch midfielder Keziah Veendorp last season to help out the midfield department. Although he demonstrated an ability to orchestrate play, the club decided they could do better with the likes of Noguera and Capo.

Lara Sharma

With the incoming Lalthuammawia Ralte potentially constricting his game time, Lara Sharma decided that FC Goa could do better with his services.

Jayesh Rane

The Indian midfielder has forever been on the fringes despite his huge potential. Last season was a little different as he provided five assists for Mumbai City while on loan and the Islanders decided to permanently recruit him.

Rohit Kumar

Another midfielder with much left to do still, Rohit Kumar only played well in the 2022/23. He left for Odisha FC in hopes of bettering his tally

Amrit Gope

The young goalkeeper also moved to Jamshedpur FC hoping to earn more game time than he would at Bengaluru FC.

Robin Yadav

The young right-back was promoted to the senior team last season but went on to only make 9 appearances for the club. Robin Yadav was sold to NorthEast United FC where he can be expected to start more often and develop his potential.

Shankar Sampingiraj

The 29-year-old centre back struggled with a rough disciplinary record last season and was released as the club had better options to fall back on.

Ajay Chhetri

The young midfielder left the Blues to see more action for I-League side Sreenidi Deccan and polish his skill set.
