The Blues now sit comfortably at the top of the ISL league standings after their third straight win.

Bengaluru FC marked another triumph in their stronghold as they overcame the resurgent Mohun Bagan Super Giant with a 3-0 score in a highly anticipated contest of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The match saw Edgar Mendez Ortega open the scoring in the 10th minute with a smooth finish into the net. Later, in the 20th minute, Edgar left a follow-up ball in the box, which Suresh Singh ran onto and scored, giving the hosts a two-goal advantage. In hindsight, the Mariners came close to scoring but fell short in the first half of the game.

Just like they had in the first half, the Blues continued their strong play into the second. Bengaluru went up by three goals in the game thanks to a penalty kick that Sunil Chhetri converted in the 51st minute as the Blues relentlessly pressured the Mohun Bagan defence. Unfortunately for the Mariners, they were unable to score tonight despite a valiant effort.

Here are the Indian player ratings for the game:

Bengaluru FC (by Analoy Majumder)

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu – 7.5

Another day, another clean sheet for Gurpreet. He had to keep himself busy from the early minutes of the game but he displayed great confidence between the posts with a lot of steady collections and important saves for his team.

Rahul Bheke – 8.0

Bheke obstructed the Mariners’ attackers with his no-nonsense defending from the start. Stood with resilience and played the role of a perfect central defender throughout the match.

Suresh Singh Wangjam – 8.5

Suresh Wangjam looked lethal from the beginning. He slotted the ball into the net after Edgar laid the ball in his path in the 19th minute. Played consistently on both ends of the pitch throughout and won multiple duels against the Mariners’ defenders.

Nikhil Poojary – 7.0

Paired extensively well along with the other defenders. Helped his team both offensively and defensively throughout the course of the game.

Roshan Singh Naorem – 7.0

Roshan some excellent runs with the ball through the left channel in the first half. He continued with the same pace in the second half also; trying to create an opening whenever he had the ball.

Vinith Venkatesh – 6.5

The youngster showed greater determination playing against experienced defenders like Subhasish Bose. Made some good runs with the ball but was taken off at halftime.

Sunil Chhetri – 7.0

Maintained good composure and shape all the time. Converted the third goal for his team from the penalty spot to break yet another record, and then made his way out for Fanai towards the last quarter.

Substitutes

Rohit Danu – 6.5

Covered the right channel well after coming in the second half. Paired well with the forwards to find attacking chances for his team.

Fanai Lalremtluanga – 6.5

Played diligently after coming. Made a few runs with the ball and won a few duels against the MBSG players.

Chinglensana Singh – 6.0

After coming in, Sana Singh brought in more stability, played his role perfectly, and also involved himself in scoring chances.

Came on for the last few minutes and added some fresh legs to the team.

Mohammed Salah – N/A

Added some fresh energy to the team.

Mohun Bagan (by Uttiyo Sarkar)

Vishal Kaith – 5.0

Kaith could’ve potentially done better for the first goal as it blazed past his near post. Unable to do much for the other goals, but made a few decent stops.

Asish Rai – 5.5

Rai couldn’t add any attacking threat and barely wandered forward. Made two interceptions and won three duels, but struggled against Bengaluru FC’s fast breaks.

Dippendu Biswas –  4.0

The youngster really struggled in his first away ISL game this season. Lost mark of Mendez for his goal and committed a poor foul for the penalty. Couldn’t cope with the intensity of Bengaluru FC’s attacks and his positioning was also questionable at times.

Subhasish Bose – 6.5

Bose worked hard to keep things as clean as possible down his side. Won 10 duels, made three tackles and four clearances in a hard-working effort but caught lacking on a few of Bengaluru FC’s swift attacks.

Abhishek Suryavanshi – 4.5

Struggled to keep up with the pace of the game and intensity of Bengaluru’s attacking moves. Added little protection to his backline and totally lost mark of Suresh for his goal.

Lalengmawia Ralte – 7.0

Ralte showed a lot of positive energy and held himself well as those around him struggled. He helped stop a number of Bengaluru’s attacks, making four tackles, three interceptions and winning four duels. Created a few nice chances in an admirable effort.

Manvir Singh – 4.5

Manvir had little to no attacking threat, being unable to get into promising positions and couldn’t create any chances. Had one shot easily saved.

Added a bit more steel to the midfield in the second half but got booked for a reckless foul. Missed a big scoring chance late on.

Suhail Bhat – N/A

Linked up nicely but booked for a bad challenge.
