Chennaiyin FC’s hopes for ISL top-six qualification go down.
Hyderabad FC registered their first win of the Indian Super League (ISL) campaign in their 19th game of the season as Sajjad Parray scored the goal in the 89th minute of the game at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
With this shocking defeat, the home side Chennaiyin FC dealt a huge blow to their playoff aspirations as they missed a chance of moving to seventh place in the table against the bottom dwellers. The Marina Machans currently find themselves 11th in the table just above Hyderabad FC. On the other hand, the Nawabs have increased 3 points to their tally making it eight points in 19 games.
Owen Coyle named an unchanged side from their win against Odisha FC in the previous round. Unfortunately, the two times ISL champions could not replicate similar results against their southern counterparts.
The hosts who now find themselves far away from the 6th position will be rueing on the missed opportunities. Comparatively, Thangboi Singto’s side will be pleased to get a win from this fixture and give the club officials something to cheer about in what is otherwise a turbulent season.
Chennaiyin will now have four high-profile games where all of their upcoming opposition will be fighting for their respective aspirations. Owen Coyle’s men will now have a mountain to climb but Coyle regardless of everything will back his boys for the top-six finish.
