Mohammedan SC secured their first win against Chennaiyin FC with 1-0
Mohammedan SC registered their first three points in the Indian Super League (ISL) against Chennaiyin FC with a 1-0 win on Thursday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This is also their first away win for the club. Miscommunication became a major issue for the Marina Machans, which helped Lalremsanga Fanai score the first and only goal in the match in the 39th minute.
Although Chennaiyin FC had a lot of shots on the opponents’ goal, their conversion rate was zero. The visiting Mohammedan SC‘s defensive game in the second half outplayed Chennaiyin FC’s strikers and helped the 133-year-old club secure their first win in the ISL. Here are the Indian player ratings for the game.
Chennaiyin FC (By Akash Dhanagaran)
Samik Mitra- 6.5
Samik Mitra maintained a solid backline and cleared opponents’ strikes. However, after the first half drinks break, a communication gap with centre-half PC Laldinpuia led to a goal. He failed to communicate with the defense after the goal, which opened the way for Mohammedan strikers to take their chances on goal. Samik Mitra learned from the mistakes and was solid in the second half, not allowing the opponents to get another goal.
PC Laldinpuia- 4.5
PC Laldinpuia had a great start but poor passing and communication resulted in him serving the ball to Fanai on a plate. He also received a yellow card later on and conceded a penalty, which Cesar Manzoki failed to convert.
Ankit Mukherjee- 7.0
Ankit Mukherjee tackled and cleared the danger well and maintained a consistent and accurate supply to the midfielders. Tried to advance on the attack in the second half and did his best to take the ball away from the opponents.
Irfan Yadwad- 7.0
Irfan Yadwad was active right from the start of the game and tried his best to get on the scoresheet, but he only missed a couple of headers. He managed to make a mark in the first half, but his visibility dwindled in the second half.
Lalrinliana Hnamte – 6.5
Hnamte missed a lot of goalscoring chances in the first half, but his passing and tackling in the middle of the park were solid.
Laldinliana Renthlei – 6.5
Laldinliana failed to maintain a steady backline as he was seen struggling to estimate the threat posed by Fanai and Makan Chothe and failed to communicate the same with his captain, Ryan Edwards, from the first few minutes.
Farukh Choudhary – 7.0
Farukh Choudhary was active throughout his time on the field. He gave his best shot to dispossess his opponents and carry the ball to the box, but even he missed potential chances.
Substitutes
Gurkirat Singh – 6.0
Gurkarit Singh entered the match as a replacement for Irfan Yadwad and was aggressive on the field. He took a couple of shots on goal but to no avail.
Kiyan Nassiri – 5.5
Came in for Farukh Choudhary in the second half, and didn’t have much to contribute despite his estimated impact, and ended up getting his name in the book.
Jitendra Singh – 5.0
Jitendra Singh had a cameo role but was seen too less in the field.

Padam Chhetri – 6.5
Not really tested that heavily, but stood firmly during set-piece situations and made eight possession recoveries. Made a great save late on.
Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak – 7.5
Zuidika had a solid outing against the experienced Farukh Choudhary, neutralizing his supply lines and keeping him quiet. He made two tackles, five clearances, and won five duels in a sturdy effort and also made the long pass resulting in Fanai’s goal.
Gaurav Bora – 7.0
Bora held together a strong defensive line with Joseph Adjei and maintained impressive positioning to frustrate the hosts. Made two tackles, five possession recoveries, and won four duels. Made a huge goal-saving block in added time.
Zodingliana Ralte – 7.5
Ralte was a tenacious figure on the left, covering a lot of ground and using his experience to win key challenges. Worked hard to neutralize Chennaiyin’s threat through that side making three tackles, two interceptions and winning six duels.
Amarjit Kiyam – 7.0
Amarjit was a proactive and diligent figure in midfield, completing 27 out of 32 passes and moving the ball forward really nicely. He also helped his backline with some sturdy defensive work, making three blocks and five possession recoveries.
Lalremsanga Fanai – 7.5
Fanai troubled the Chennaiyin defenders with his mazy runs all game long and hit the jackpot in the 39th minute when his press allowed him to score an easy goal. He also helped out at the back, making seven recoveries – showcasing an admirable work-rate.
Makhan Chothe – 6.5
A vibrant figure on the left wing, causing trouble with his movement and link-up play. Created a few nice moves and helped out defensively, winning four duels and making four recoveries.
Substitutes
Bikash Singh – 7.0
Added a bit more steel on the left flank and helped out Zodingliana as well.
Mohammed Irshad – 6.5
Irshad had a decent cameo to help his side see out the result.
