Chennaiyin FC have officially announced the signing of Namgyal Bhutia ahead of the upcoming season. The 26-year-old right back joins Chennaiyin on a long-term deal as they need to play their best football in the upcoming ISL season.

With his arrival, the Marina Machans have strengthened their team with this signing, as Khel Now revealed exclusively earlier that Chennaiyin has also secured the deal of Portuguese defender Nuno Reis.

Chennaiyin FC have sealed the signing of Namgyal Bhutia ahead of the new ISL 2026-27 season as he leaves Bengaluru FC. He becomes another important player for the club as they continue to build a good, competitive squad after the last ISL season.

Namgyal Bhutia has mainly played as a right back, but for Bengaluru FC in the last season he mostly came off the bench and acted like a central midfielder or as a right midfield option. Bhutia has earned a good amount of experience as he has played over 40 ISL games, and in the last season for the Blues, he played six games where he also scored a goal against FC Goa.

Now he is set to play for Chennaiyin FC as his versatility could add extra value to the squad. He is a very reliable and hardworking player who can play in different positions, as his pace, stamina and work rate make him special.

Namgyal Bhutia will make history mark as he could be a very dependable defensive option for the team, who is strong in one-on-one defending and tackles. Not only in defensive duties, but Bhutia can play a big part in the attacking transitions, as in the last season for Bengaluru FC he played in the midfield area and carried the ball.

Having played in the ISL, he has ISL experience, and he also won the development league with the Blues in the 2021-22 season.

For Chennaiyin FC, he might play a good part in the team also a very good option from the bench as well; he can provide stability at the back while also helping the team in the attack.

In this upcoming ISL 2026-27 season, Chennaiyin is looking very positive in terms of their team building as they have signed many players, with the signing of Nuno Reis, who is a very experienced defender in Indian football.

They have signed Ayush Chhetri, Brison Fernandes and Muhammed Saheef, and not only that, now they have secured the signing of Namgyal Bhutia. And they also gave renewals of contracts to Maheson Tongbram Singh, S. Prakadeswaran and Klusner John Manuel Pereira.

And talking about the departures, they have parted ways with Imran Khan, Mandar Rao Desai, Alberto Noguera, Gurkirat Singh, Elsinho, Jitendra Singh, Mohammed Ali Bemammer, Inigo Martin, Chima Chukwu, Laldinliana Renthlei and Eduardo Santos ahead of the new season.
