The young duo have been included in the senior squad of East Bengal for the remainder of ISL season.
East Bengal FC have promoted two promising youngsters to its Indian Super League (ISL) squad that will help them grow and develop for the next season. Mahitosh Roy and Shyamal Besra have been inducted into the senior setup and will ply their trade in the premier league competition of the country.
The Red & Gold Brigade is on the verge of failing to secure playoff qualification for the 2023-24 season. As it stands, the club has only 18 points from 19 fixtures and occupies the 10th position on the table. While Carles Cuadrat’s men are not mathematically out of the race, seeing them secure the playoffs is a far-fetched idea, considering their league form.
The winners of the 2024 Super Cup deciding to promote the two players with high potential is seen as a step towards preparing for the next ISL season. The expectation from the fans would be seeing both Mahitosh Roy and Shyamal Besra enjoy plenty of game time in forthcoming games that would go a long way in readying them for the next season.
Future of East Bengal FC
Both Mahitosh Roy and Shyamal Besra are seen by the East Bengal FC fanbase as key players in the future. The former, 25-year-old promising midfielder, has played for the East Bengal reserves side in the I-League 2 and the Durand Cup for the senior team. He is full of energy and enthusiasm which can prove to be a welcome addition to Red & Gold Brigade’s midfield department.
On the other hand, Shyamal Besra is a 19-year-old who has featured in the Reliance Foundation’s Developmental League and the I-League 2 previously. He is a midfielder by trade and loves to get involved in both attack and defence, showcasing his box-to-box qualities.
It will be interesting to see if the induction of these two players into the ISL squad leads to time on the bench or getting involved in matches. Carles Cuadrat’s willingness to develop young players at the club will certainly sit well with the passionate fanbase.
