FC Goa are chasing the ISL Shield while Chennaiyin FC need a win to remain in the race for a playoff berth

The Indian Super League (ISL) has seen its fair share of rivalries over the years. However, the game between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC is easily the oldest and one of the fiercest rivalries in the league.

While the Gaurs have the upper hand in terms of wins, Chennaiyin FC have got the upper hand in the semifinals and finals of the ISL whenever these clubs meet. Who will win the Bragging Rights on Saturday?

The Stakes

FC Goa

FC Goa are currently on 30 points in 16 ISL games and have scored in each of their league games irrespective of the result. Manolo Marquez’s side are unbeaten in their last 11 ISL games and are fighting for the ISL Shield. Hence we can expect them to be the favourites against Chennaiyin FC.

Chennaiyin FC

Owen Coyle’s side have drawn each of their last three games and are currently 10th in the ISL standings. The Marina Machans have won just four of their 17 league games this season and are on 18 points, out of the playoffs spot.

Injury Concerns and Team News

For FC Goa, Dejan Drazic and Udanta Singh are injury concerns and may not be available against the Marina Machans. On the other hand for Chennaiyin FC, Elsinho, Lukas Brambilla, and Vignesh Dakshinamurthy are injury concerns and are doubtful to play against the Gaurs.

Players to Watch

Armando Sadiku (FC Goa)

FC Goa’s striker Armando Sadiku has so far been the brightest spark in their 2024-25 ISL campaign. The Albanian was given a red card in the win against East Bengal but the club appealed it and it has successfully been overturned.

Sadiku has scored 9 goals in 15 league games and will be the favourite to score against CFC.

Connor Shields (Chennaiyin FC)

Connor Shields has been the best player for Chennaiyin FC this season. The Scotsman leads the assist charts with eight assists and he has also scored a goal for the Marina Machans in 16 ISL games.

If Connor plays well, CFC will certainly create quite a few good chances against the Gaurs on Saturday.
