Jayesh Rane shared that he is happy to contribute to Mumbai City FC’s success.
In a thrilling ISL finals showdown, Mumbai City FC clinched a 3-1 victory over Mohun Bagan, orchestrating a remarkable turnaround. Despite an early setback with Jason Cummings’s opener for Mohun Bagan, Jorge Pereyra Diaz swiftly equalised, igniting Mumbai’s resurgence. Bipin Singh and Jakub Vojtuš sealed the win with two more clinical strikes, delivering redemption for Petr Kratky and his determined squad.
The match showcased Mumbai’s resilience and determination to claim vengeance after narrowly missing out on the ISL Shield. Phurba Lachenpa’s unfortunate spillage led to Mohun Bagan’s initial breakthrough, but Mumbai City FC swiftly regrouped, displaying character and resolve. With Jorge Pereyra Diaz’s crucial equaliser setting the tone, Bipin Singh and Jakub Vojtuš capitalised on their opportunities, securing a memorable triumph and etching their names in Mumbai City FC’s history books.
Several players shared their thoughts after the game. Let’s take a look at the same:
Vikram Partap Singh shared how this season has been an important one for him. The midfielder said, “I feel lucky to take the opportunity that was given to me when he (Petr Kratky) came. After that, I just wanted to play. I know if I score from the first I will score.”
He also added the different attitude shown by the team in the final as compared to the day of the ISL Shield. “Simple, we know we have lost down the finals, you don’t want to lose another. It was such a great season and we wanted to win something.” He also shared, “Today is my father’s birthday. Also sorry to someone. I will never do that again.” May be he was indicating to Subhasish Bose, with whom he had a tussle during the game. ‘May be’!
Jayesh Rane also shared the thoughts going on in his mind. “Winning trophies is the most important thing. I am very happy for my teammates. Everyone deserved it, the coach, and also the fans who came from Mumbai. This is for them. Last season I couldn’t play but I was waiting for my time. I think the coach saw something in me and gave me a chance. Happy to have contributed something to the team.”
Skipper Rahul Bheke thanked each and every Mumbai City FC player, coach, staff and fans. “Last time when we came here (at the Salt Lake Stadium), it was quite difficult for us. It was a clear instruction that in this game there should be no setbacks. We have to go on them and press and we did that. In the whole game we were on top of them. I am really proud of each one of them. Thanks to each and everyone involved,” he mentioned.
Lallianzuala Chhangte too, shared his views after the game. He said, “First and foremost, all grace to my Lord and Jesus Christ and secondly, we didn’t give up. We conceded one goal but we kept pushing. Our coach encouraged us to push and we did that.”
Bipin Singh added, “We were waiting for this moment. When the opportunity comes, we keep ourselves ready. I am feeling good.”
Petr Kratky, who won his first ever final in the first ever final of his managerial career, said, “Going 1-0 down in the first half and come back again, brilliant! When I came to this club, we just needed to keep growing.”
