Mohun Bagan’s heroics took the limelight in ISL 2023-24 gameweek 19.

The Indian Super League (ISL) wrapped up its final gameweek ahead of India’s 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2027 AFC Asian Cup joint qualifiers against Afghanistan. It was a week to remember with goals, surprises and drama taking the center stage throughout.

Hyderabad FC became the first side to win an ISL game with an all-Indian line-up while Mohun Bagan maintained their dominant record in the derby. Mumbai City FC scored four past the Highlanders after FC Goa and Punjab FC played out a six-goal thriller in Delhi. The Gaurs also pulled off a comeback win over Bengaluru FC in the last game of this week.

Hyderabad FC did the unthinkable in the very first game of gameweek 19. The young and resilient warriors of clinched their first victory of the season after a series of negative and unsatisfactory results.

The win was Hyderabad FC’s silver lining amidst the dark clouds. Both sides had few and fair chances to score, but it was Sajad Hussain Parray who scored an 89th-minute winner for the away side and helped them get their first three points of the season. Moreover, the Nizams scripted history by becoming the first team to win an ISL match with an all-Indian squad.

Kerala Blasters have always maintained a very handsome record playing at home, but things have changed this season. After a defeat to Punjab FC at home last month, the Blasters have lost one more game at home this season. This time Mohun Bagan did the honors by scoring four goals past the Blasters. 

It was a seven-goal thriller that saw Antonio Habas’ side take all three points home from Kochi. Armando Sadiku broke the deadlock early in the game before Vibin Mohanan pulled a goal back in the second half. Sadiku scored again before Dimitrios Diamantakos equalized for the Blasters. Deepak Tangri and Jason Cummings added a couple of more goals for the away side before Diamantakos pulled off a consolation goal in the dying moments.

Mohun Bagan secured the bragging rights of the iconic Kolkata derby after a dominant 3-1 win over East Bengal last Sunday. The Mariners came into the game as favourites and did not disappoint their fans in the biggest game of the season in Indian football.

Jason Cummings, Liston Colaco and Dimitri Petratos scored three past the Red & Gold Brigade in the first 45 minutes, leaving East Bengal with a mountain to climb in the second half. Saul Crespo however, pulled a goal back for his side while the Torch Bearers looked the better side in the second half, but it just wasn’t enough to trouble Mohun Bagan.
