Thangboi Singto ‘saluted’ the Hyderabad FC players for their commitment.

Hyderabad FC succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Kerala Blasters in the ISL 2023-24 on Friday. In reflection, Head coach Thangboi Singto acknowledged the team’s efforts but emphasized the need to capitalize on scoring opportunities and tighten their defensive play. Looking ahead, Singto expressed confidence in the team’s ability to learn and improve from this experience.

Thoughts on the game

Sharing his thoughts on the game, Thangboi Singto said, “I think when we started off we were doing well. I think we were quite competitive but we made one major mistake. Can’t blame the youngster because he has been playing all throughout and has given his best for the club. So can’t complain about that. We made one single mistake but created two big great chances. If those were converted, it would have been a different story.

“Credit to Joao and Kattimani – the senior boys who are always pushing the young boys to do their best and I think we had a lot of chances – 15 shots and on target maybe 4-5 shots. But I think hopefully we grow from this season and not repeat the silly mistakes we made,” the boss acknowledged.

On having a better second half of the season

The increase in goals during the second half of the season was a testament to the team’s evolving dynamics and offensive skill. Addressing this the coach highlighted the players’ improved understanding of tactical strategies and enhanced chemistry on the field. He also specified the reason behind starting Abhijit PA instead of Lalchhanhima Sailo.

“I think with experience the players will step up. Games are the real picture of the quality of players and at the bigger stage, I think the young boys will step up. They should keep on asking themselves because that is the way to improve as a player.”

On the importance of the off season

Hyderabad FC have faced challenges this season, but are determined to learn from their experiences and make significant improvements next term. Reflecting on the performance, the coach emphasized the importance of analyzing areas for growth and implementing strategic changes to the team both on and off field.

“We hope to be better next season, Yeah. I would like to give credit to the owners. We speak about the players and the staff, but if the owners had not asked us or helped us to continue, we wouldn’t be playing. So I know it’s difficult for them too. They’ve been pushing and helping us in whatever way they can. We as a result, kept trying our best and the biggest credit goes to the players. I understand the fans are the most important, but for the season the players are to be saluted.

“The way they behaved, the way they reacted in situations, the way they performed and trained. There is no complaint whatsoever and like I said, salute to the boys or the team. One or two players couldn’t get their debut, and I’m sorry for that, but we wanted to win the games for the reason going forward. We’ve been told that we will have a new start and I believe that very soon there’ll be some good news for all of us, for the Deccan Legion, for the fans and Hyderabad FC. We emerge and stay where we deserve, competing with the best in the league,” he concluded.
