Chennaiyin FC registered a comfortable victory over Jamshedpur FC.
Jamshedpur FC welcomed Chennaiyin FC to the JRD Tata Sports Complex looking to continue their impressive home record in their 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign. Both teams were coming off losses and hence this match was important for the sides in order to change their momentum.
Chennaiyin FC dominated the first half, scoring in the 6th minute courtesy of a Pratik Choudhary own goal. Irafan Yadwad got on the scoresheet in the 22nd minute before turning provider to Connor Shields in the 24th minute. The Marina Machans went into the break with a 3-0 lead away from home.
Wilmar Jordan scored CFC’s fourth goal in the 54th minute from a defensive error. Lucas Brambilla then joined the party, curling his shot from outside the box in the 71st minute. Javier Hernandez got a late consolation for JFC from the penalty spot as Chennaiyin FC comfortably won 5-1 on the night.
Here are the Indian player ratings for the game:
Jamshedpur FC (by Saikat Sengupta)
Albino Gomes – 5.0
To completely blame JFC’s heavy defeat on Albino would be quite an injustice as the defensive stability of the team was dismantled from the first whistle. His performance too was below satisfactory tonight and there would be some tough questions posed on the possible saves and denials he could have made.
Ashutosh Mehta – 5.5
Ashutosh Mehta made a great start to the season. However, tonight was a bad day at the office for the 33-year-old fullback. The pace of Chennaiyin FC’s wingers were unmatched by JFC’s fullback resulting in a lot of defensive lapses.
Pratik Chaudhari – 4.5
In Eze’s absence, Pratik was tasked with the responsibility to not only stay resilient but also lead the all-Indian Jamshedpur defense. However, an unfortunate error saw Pratik score an own goal in the early minutes, which demoralized the momentum and belief of the team.
Yamboi Muirang – 4.5
It was a memorable debut for young Muirang. There would be a lot of questions asked about his man marking and positioning. Jersey no. 21 will need to rectify and learn from his mistakes as there is a lot of latent potential left in him to be harnessed.
Md. Uvais – 4.5
One of the toughest days in office for the left back from Kerala. There were a lot of overlapping runs and counterattacks made by Marina Machans from the left flank of the pitch. Uvais will need to rethink and retrospect his performance during the international break and make a strong comeback in the next game.
Imran Khan – 5.5
Imran did try to make those crosses and deliveries into the D box. However, he was completely left alone and there was not much aid from his teammates to make a comeback in this game.
Mohammad Sanan – 5.0
One of the rare bad days at the office for young Sanan. He seemed absent throughout the match. There was no real contribution from Sanan in the entirety of the time he was present in the field tonight.
Substitutes:
Mobashir Rahman – 5.5
Mobashir had enough opportunities to make his impact felt in the match after an unfortunate injury Murray saw him getting a handsome time to feature. He did show an instant zeal. However, his enthusiasm was extinguished as time passed by.
Nikhil Barla – 6.5
One of the silver linings in the cloud for the Red Miners was Nikhil Barla. He was unarguably the best Indian player for JFC tonight. He made all those runs from the flanks, put in all the efforts and ensured that the home fans had something to be proud of and cheer for.
Samir Murmu – 6.0
As soon as Samir Murmu’s name was announced, the Furnace erupted in jubilation to celebrate the debut of the local boy. He did make those runs towards the goal. However, there was not much control in his footwork and there is enough scope for his improvement.
Shubham Sarangi – 5.0
Shubham Sarangi was brought in for Ashutosh Mehta. His performance was outshined by Chennaiyin’s constant dominance throughout the game.
Amrit Gope – 6.0
Another local boy from Jharkhand was allowed to make his debut for JFC tonight after Albino was subbed off in the dying hours of the game.
Chennaiyin FC (By Aasif Ali)
Mohammad Nawaz – 6.5
The goalkeeper made his first start for Chennaiyin FC and made four saves in the game. Nawaz didn’t have much to do but eventually, let in a penalty to lose his clean sheet.
Bikash Yumnam – 6.0
Bikash was good defensively but didn’t have much to do as Chennaiyin FC was on the attack. The defender did miss a big chance to score, failing to even hit the target in the first half.
PC Laldinpuia – 6.0
The defender made 2 tackles and 1 clearance on the night but was not much involved in the game. He received a yellow card in the 58th minute and played the full 90 minutes.
Laldinliana Renthlei – 7.0
Once again, Laldinliana was quite involved in the attacking half apart from helping his teammates in defence. The defender made 3 tackles and 4 interceptions and also created a chance for his teammates.
Vincy Barretto – 7.0
Vincy’s cross helped Chennaiyin FC break the deadlock as Pratik Choudhari slotted the ball into his net in the 6th minute. The winger was taken off in the 29th minute after seemingly picking up an injury.
Kiyan Nassiri – 6.0
Kiyan started the game brightly, combining well with the forwards. The 23-year-old didn’t create many chances after being moved to the right-wing following Vincy’s injury and was substituted in the 66th minute
Irfan Yadwad – 8.5
Playing on the left, the forward was the star of the show for CFC. Irfan scored a solo goal in the 22nd minute before providing an assist to Connor Shields in the 26th minute. He provided another assist in the second half, this time to Wilmar Jordan Gil.
Irfan eventually turned villain in the closing minutes of the game, giving away a penalty that was converted by Javi Hernandez. He was substituted in the 89th minute.
Substitutes:
Lalrinliana Hnamte – 7.5
He came on for Vincy in the 29th minute. Hnamte screened CFC’s backline well and also provided the assist for Lucas Brambilla’s goal.
Gurkirat Singh – 5.5
Gurkirat came on for Kiyan Nassiri in the 66th minute. He failed to leave a mark on the game in the 30-odd minutes that he played.
Vignesh Dakshinamurthy – N/A
The defender came on for Irfan Yadwad in the 89th minute to see off the game.
